Me and my GTX

interesting...

I am not technically skilled to know 4 sure, I based the tip on looking at the rev counter while motorin'

All said and done i do love to floor it as much as the next man/woman!

A cabby is 150 kg heaviler thant a tin top so there's less performance AND ecomomy:(

yep use a whole lot of fuel coasting, non on overrun, this true for efi cars, on a carbed car its going to use fuel either way.

On efi cars the revs need to be above 1500rpm for the overrun fuel cut off to be activated, its easy to feel, coast in4th at 2krpm and let it slow to 1.5krpm, oy uwill feel a small surge thats the fuel coming back in.

Sounds to me like it needs a good service and a few parts degunked. It's all realtively easy on a R5, unlike very modern cars which are designed to be imposible for the home mechanic!

Personally, being a bit of a car geek I would renew sparks/leads/distributor&rotor arm, take the carberettor apart and clean it etc and give it an oli change along with filter and fuel filter too. But that's just me, and I rarely have anything better to do or spend money on.

The 1.7 GTX is a great car, get it in fine fettle and it will surprise people by how nippy it can be!

Thought about a turbo conversion? :D

Great minds and all that!

Leads, plugs, rotor arm and dis cap all done yesterday :) Getting a fuel filter on the way home from work - help me out tho left my manual at home, isn't there a fuel separator filter as well? Oil change and new oil filter planned for the very near future.

Yesterday after all the changes it was mis-firing a bit and wouldn't tick over even with the choke on. This morning my mummy drove it for me (its been at her place) lol and it started first time. No chance to test the stalling problem as it was icy and the choke was on for her short journey to work but Im taking it out for a blast tomorrow (after changing filters and cleaning the carb - not taking it apart just yet tho so superficial clean and blast out as previously suggested)

All is not as gloomy as it was yesterday :)

oh and the turbo conversion has been suggested by someone I know with GTT's, but it's nippy enough for me as it is. Plus turbo's (and dump valves, yes I am sad!) cause underwear issues with me but I guess you prolly didn't want to know that :)

just throw a new lump in if it gets too pricey... as we know there are plenty of lads on here capable of changing engines faster than superman changes into tights

Well, (touching wood) my car seems to be ok! In fact, it's better than ok - white lightning has been unleashed and is fighting fit!

The dissy cap, rotar arm and leads had been changed but it was still shagged, today the idling was adjusted and shock horror the bolts from the carb to the manifold were loose, very flippin loose.

So with those tightened and the idling adjusted = problem solved!!!

I've got a fuel filter and I will clean the carb for good measure.

All that and Ive got a box of celebrations and a bottle of wine to chow on tonight :)

I forgot to mention the bolts, as its a very common fault on them...

As is a warped carb base but thats more than likely been dealt with before

as long as all is well now your'e laughing, glad to hear its running well for you

I rarely have anything better to do or spend money on

lol.

Someone's just told me that perhaps my stalling issue (which I think only happens when the car gets to/just below quarter of a tank of fuel) may be caused by silicon (used to fit/line the fuel tank) may be loose and getting sucked in?

Does anyone know if that is possible or complete codswhallop?

A relatively new problem its developed now is it's a bit tricky to start but then drives ok, I can drive fine and get it hot etc but when I come back later (from 10 mins to 5 hours) and start it it's tricky again and if it stalls it then won't start but if I leave it for a while it then starts and goes fine!

When my step father used to drive it the not wanting to start again thing didn't happen, since then we changed the idling and I wonder if he altered the mixture and maybe its running rich?

Im soooooo gonna owe you guys a pint if I ever make it to a meet :)
