Starting issues after random hazard warning light problem

Sorry if this has already been covered - I've searched for "hazard", "Immobiliser" and "starting issues" but nothing covers my particular issue. ClioV6 series 2, always a good starter after 2-3 cranks, now turns over but never "catches" after I had a problem with the hazard lights (all 4 indicators) coming on randomly and flattening the battery overnight. Battery now fully recharged and engine turns over well but never fires. Hazard lights also now fail to come on despite repeated button presses. Has something "immobilised" the ignition system? All fuses checked and all look OK. Any clues/suggestions really appreciated as I'm currently stuck in Italy and loath to call out Italian breakdown service who probably won't have a clue....

No mechanic here but possibly an earth issue? Battery positive and negative well secured?

The immobiliser, unsure on a Mk2 but a red light should stop once the key is turned, flashing maybe middle of the speedo clocks.

I vaguely recall the Mk2 hazard switch playing up but think it my have been when they no longer work.

Believe the starter motor does begin to fail if it's on the original.

Maybe worth a try -

Hi BREMBO, thanks for getting back to me. Not sure exactly what fixed the issue in the end but your YouTube video caused me to try the key fob/ignition trick. and combined with the WOT trick I saw elsewhere, the V6 roared into life as soon as I turned the key. So all good and thanks so much for your kind suggestions. And yes, I had the starter motor issue a couple of years back and got that fixed then, so fingers crossed for another 12 years of trouble-free fun from here on. Cheers! [smilie=yay.gif]

Apparently it stands for "Wide Open Throttle" so you floor the accelerator as you turn the key. Does something with the fuel injection it seems which optimises starting but you need to lift off as soon as it fires to ovoid over revving.
