Kangoo Compact (aka Racevan3)

Updates.

Got a set of Ferodo Ds1.11 pads for the front so fitted them last weekend.

Ten min pad change.

Whilst in the area i greased the lower swivels on the perfo hubs via the grease bolts. These are an essential mod for mk2 meg to keep the swivel bearings right, do it once a year and you wont have any issues, and steering always feels a bit better when done. I have found that the passenger one always suffers with grease washing out and a bit of shite comes out each time.

Took it out today to bed the Ds1.11 pads into the discs. 70-30mph x3 and its breaking arrow straight and very sharp as expected, with a nice contact patch noticed on both discs.

Usual Ds1.11 brake dust after 3 applications of brakes.

Updates.

Throttle body gasket was leaking on the Kangoo resulting in a screeching sound on idle and on boost, noticed it develop intermittently after Anglesey/CSF last year but it had started to get bad when used recently.

Performance was down and found the leak via smoke test.

Ive never been happy with my homemade throttle adaptor and have a lead on a cnc machined billet alloy one to replace it but need to wait a few weeks for it to arrive. Opted to fix it to make it useable in the meantime until new one comes.

Front off in 20 mins.

On inspection the bolts holding the adaptor to inlet had worked loose causing the issue. Dug out the gasket paper and made a new gasket.

Posh gasket paper instead of cornflakes box.

Refitted and smoke test to check for leaks, passed no problems. Started up and no more screeching.

Smokin.

Whilst i was in the area i replaced the pathetic single horn to a more manly dual horn that @Crayola kindly donated a while back.

Small van loud horn.

Rebuilt and ready for action.

Next step was to road test. A few quick pulls to check boost pressure and afr with Rstuner hooked up to datalog. All good, feels stronger in the mid range again.

With it running good again, i loaded my track wheels in to take to my mates garage for new set of Ar1's.

Fresh rubber.

Good to have it sorted again. Might book a trackday for it after CSF.

Thanks for reading!!

In other news my billet throttle adaptor should arrive this week. Im also looking at ordering harder 80nm springs for the Ast's to try out.

Been thinking about ecumaster black install soon as had it in stock for over a year! This would allow for boost by gear and a few nice bits.

Thanks for reading!!

Do you have any data to do with plastic inlet gasket for heat isolation @Brigsy ? Always a bit sceptical but open to data!
No plastic on mine its all alloy.

Cant see them phenolic thermal intake manifold spacers doing much. When i looked into them years ago im sure they were largely debunked. If they do anything itll be subtle, as we all know the intercooling does the heavy lifting on forced induction.

Iat's really good on this. My spa gauge on peak recall has never been above 39deg. Always a couple of degrees above ambient on the move.

I wasn't suggestion yours had any plastic on it - you are correct though the phenolic thermal intake manifold spaces is what I was referring to but could not recall their names!

Updates.

Kangoo was looking a bit sad and paint was a bit flat with slight oxidation on the roof, bumpers/plastics faded and a bit of oxidation on the headlamps. Ive not polished it since last cut 4 years ago so its done quite well with a handful of applications of c2v3 over the years.

Had a spare half day today and weather was ok, not hot and cloudy so give it a once over.

Snowfoamed with Bh autofoam, Washed and detail brushed all the awkward bits to remove any moss and shite. Decontaminated with BH Korrosol to get the iron fallout off.

Dug the da out and give it a single stage polish with Chemical Guys V38 final polish and a soft finishing pad, light touch as it doesnt have loads of paint on it and i dont have a depth gauge.

Low effort tape job to keep the compound off the plastics.

Paint came up quite easy with a single or double pass per panel. I then panel wiped the residue off and applied a coat of collinite 476s wax to seal it. Nobody uses waxes any more but i rate collinite, the paint pops and it lasts ages and very easy to work with compared to ceramics.

The bumpers were looking well faded. I have used a few ceramic trim restorers over the years and some are ok, some average. With a bit of reading i opted to use Ceracote ceramic trim coat restoration kit. Its pre packed wipes that you apply with no buff off.

Pre application pic, faded and previous compound on the plastic.

I scrubbed the plastics down with neat apc and followed up with a quick rub over with isopropyl alcohol in select areas to remove any previous products.

Once dry i applied the wipes. The product is easy to work with and 1x wipe can do half a bumper so it goes a long way.

Much better.

Fin, much better.

The ceramic coating needs an hr to go off. Had been on half an hr and felt spots of rain (fcuking typical) so had a mad ten mins shuffling the cars about to get it in the garage to cure.

Under cover.

A couple of spots did not affect it luckily. Will see how it fairs.

Took it for a run out after to blow the cobwebs off. Still brutally fast for what it is.

Thanks for reading!!

Be following this with interest on longevity. I have had some CTR that have been ace for about a week then go to pieces. Let me know how you get on please

Will keep you updated on how long it lasts. On other cars ive used Gtechniq C4 and that lasted a fair while maybe 6-9 months. Ive also used Gyeon Q2 trim and that lasted 3months max.

Not expecting it to last forever but would be nice to have it last a year or so before top up is required.
