Kangoo Compact (aka Racevan3)

Love the chevrons.

Can you get a becon as well?
Cheers mate. I cant be arsed with a beacon, a bolt on one is too expensive for what it is.

Such a well sorted LITTLE van! Great work @Brigsy

I’m a bit confused tho, how did the leaning out not show up whilst it was on the rollers? Thought the whole idea of the rolling road was the fact you can tune as if you are on the road? But reading your update, it reads as though the real data is coming when you are data logging whilst driving???

More load on the engine on the street and airflow which makes more boost pressure on this for some reason compared to the average megane. Was perfect on the dyno regarding afr and boost.

The issue is how the sagem s3000 controls the boost, with it closing the throttle to get boost back to target it goes lean. Absolulte dogshit ecu.

its a fairly common issue over a lot of cars if you google it.

Dyno is a great tool for tuning and optimizing ign and other parameters, but some engines need tuning/logging on the street unless tuned very safe. All the other cars ive had tuned have been spot on and pretty much identical fuelling and boost on the street, but you cant win them all.

In comparison my Extra van needed lots of load on the dyno to make the same boost pressure as on the street, when it was on carburettor.

Was the high vis a kit or a sheet and cut as you need? Been tempted to do it to Twingo for fun rather than respray/wrap in garish yellow..
The chevrons were a pre cut kit for Kangoo so made life easy when it came to fitting.

Great weekend..even took it for a blast to Whitby and back on the Sunday evening.

Flashed a revised map on from Chris with some more N75 duty removed. Mpps v18 doing the business.

This has cured the overboost/throttle closing. Afr is bang on 11.8/9 now and boost 21-22psi so all good. Checking logs and bang on, no knock r****d or nothing. So all good for some hard use and fun.20230711_150940-jpg.webp

Best get the ds1:11 pads back in and the semi slicks back on with Anglesey a few weeks away!

Thanks for reading.

I was down your way couple weeks back, staying over in Primrose Valley for the first week of the school Holidays, i was wondering if i would see the van zooming around or not 😅

love the engine build!

Altho my bank is gonna cry from the ideas

Now i need a 197 head, 250 inlet and to make it work on a 172 block 😅
Cheers mate. Scoff said this engine was great to tune with the lower cr as it took plenty of ign timing. It hurt the bank balance building it😄

Primrose valley not far away at all. I was actually down that area for some reason or other a while ago. Fun fact, in 2005 i used to go to an illegal street racing meet in an industrial estate in that area on Sunday nights in my white r5gtt. Blew up 2nd gear once😄

Updates

Found the dealer leaflet for compact on ebay so bought it. 500kg payload apparently 😆

Dug out the Compomotive mo6 in rare r26r offset that i had refurbed white last year with new cup2 connects. Quick clean off and a coat of Gtechniq c5 wheel armour.

Had a spare hour Sat morning so got them fitted as fancied a change. Also refitted the DS1.11 front pads ready for CSF whilst front wheels were off.

Love the white on white.

Also got to the bottom of my continuous overboost issues. Checked the actuator with my chinese mityvac and the diaphragm has split, couldnt write it!

Changed for another green dot actuator i had in stock that works. Done some data logging and boost pressure is down to a pityful 12psi in the midrange then up to 18psi at the higher rpm's.

Back to the dyno to get the n75 duty reset.

Managed to get the Kangoo booked into Efi last Wed pm slot. Worked out grand, as i was working in Huddersfield in the am so work mileage covered the fuel and half way there so not too far to go.

Raised a few eyebrows on site rolling into an over 55s complex with 3" exhaust and one silencer. Had to roll in as it loves the odd loud bang out of the exhaust.

Site visit done and put efi post code into Waze, it took me from Hudds via A635 which was a great drive even though pissing down, passing Dovestone reservior. Roads were dead so could make a bit of progress before the millions of speed cameras. Give me chance to test the michelin pilotsport cup2 connects, grip suprisingly good in the wet, was expecting them to be a bit skittish but overall great.

Arrive at Efi mid afternoon and straight on the dyno.

First run with 100% n75 duty only give us 18psi on the new actuator so had to give actuator max preload available. Que swearing and burned hands

With actuator preload set the next run made 22psi tailing off at the top. I had a spare meg3 rs 250 n75 so fitted that to see if it would hold more boost. It did indeed hold a little bit more up top of the rpm range but not enough to make the same power as last map.

We did see 360hp a few runs but settled at 349hp/305ft/lb so 20hp or so down from last time.

I asked Chris to keep torque low as poss for max traction, its not a diesel so dont need loads of torque and it keeps the transmission happy.

If i changed the actuator i could get the peak hp up again but not investing anymore in the stock ecu/20t hybrid as its all coming out over winter.

20230802_164335-jpg.webp

As usual the curves are lovely and smooth. Me and Chris took it for some datalogging on the street and can confirm there are no overboost issues with working actuator, no throttle closing and afr is exactly the same as the dyno runs.

With less peak torque its epic on the road, its a case of less is more and can use 2nd gear onwards as it struggled with traction in first 3 gears at 372hp.

Mega long day as was out the door at 730am and back by 930pm. 300 miles/full tank of juice but great outcome.

Thats one job off the list for CSF.

Updates

Had a look at the old damaged actuator. It looks like its either been dropped or crushed at some point (not by me) didnt notice until removed. Assume it was working before diaphragm split.

Its in the bin now and that saga is over.

Got a pair of michelin pilotsport 5 to replace the bald ones on the anthracite comps.

Fitted my Spa dual boost/intake temp gauge. Had this in the drawer for 18 months but not got round to it.

New panel made for 3 gauges.

Note - 55 above on intake temp as i need a boss tig welding into my boost hose.

Washed it and took to Makro on the chicken run

Give it some on the way back and the fcuking gear cable popped out of the holder so only had 3rd & 4th gear! Not had any issues with it in 10k miles since conversion too.

Que some swearing and lost skin managed to pop it back in, for it to pop out again when almost home after blowing the doors off a corsa vxr.

The cable holder on pk gearbox is plastic and crap design. The cable now has a large jubilee clip round it to secure it, which is a bit yee haa but it aint going nowhere. Ill see if i can make a more elegant solution in the future, but all is well again after me and the mrs took it out again on the evening for some boost.

It does flames, lots of them when on it.

Nothing to see here just work van.

Geo on Friday and oil change. Lets hope nothing else breaks.

Updates

Had a bit of spare time this week on an evening as been off the gym. Supposed to be resting my arm up but yeah..

Went to Asda on Tuesday in it and heard the cars on track at Teesside so popped over. On way back was nice evening/sunset so got some pics down the sea front on way back.

Got talking to a local fella who turned out to be a massive petrolhead, so was there quite a while and tide started coming right up to the wheels..its prob rusting happily after all the salt air

Got chance of some lift time Wed afternoon at a mates garage. Oil and filter change done, michelin ps5 fitted to the comps and geo done on the hunter.

Camber and toe was miles out initially and it was wondering a bit on the street. Not sure whats going on there but must have settled a bit since last geo.
20230809_154719-jpg.webp
Spiced up the front a little for Anglesey. Drives true again and straight on boost. Not tried cornering too much due to traffic, have chucked it into a few roundabouts and turns in nice, where it was a little understeery before. I was always a bit dissapointed with the understeer considering rs perfo hub setup but we will see how this goes.
20230809_161101-jpg.webp
Castor still a bit out but cant get nothing on that on current setup.

in theory its semi slicks and full tank of fuel and its good to go. Ill prob change rad for oem meg before we go as concerned the aftermarket is not up to the job. Easy enough job to do.

Updates.

More datalogging, still had a slight overboost situation up hills/max load. Ive knocked 1.5 turns of preload off the acutator to lower the base pressure and done extensive datalogging on the road late at night. 100% confident its bang on the money, 22psi tapering to 19psi under full load up hill and 11.7 afr tapering to low 11s up top.
20230817_210429-jpg.webp

Got a fine as forgot to pay the merseyflow on the way back from efi. Could have took a better pic for £22
20230818_123915-jpg.webp

I was running an evol dogbone and the bushes had fallen to bits on both sides and causing a knock in reverse. Bought a posh vibratechnics dogbone and fitted that.
20230820_155719-jpg.webp

Finished off my spa intake temp sensor. My friend alloy tig welded it for me. Pressure tested all good, sensor threads sealed with locktite 577. Fitted, works good.
20230823_075330-jpg.webp

Fitted the technomagnesio/A048 M/H compound semi slicks in prep for CSF. Looks mega like compomotive mo5.

20230823_132517-jpg.webp

Also changed rad for new oem renault so no chance of it getting hot. Its been road tested today/datalogged all good.
