Car came back today from it’s inspection.
As you would expect from a vehicle restoration company they were pretty thorough.
Pretty much most of the stuff on the list I’m aware of so no major surprises, I’m under no illusion that it’s an old car now and with that comes “old car” issues.
The exterior issues are ok, I have a new bonnet and the car will be sprayed anyway.
The brakes are pretty much new but have light surface corrosion just due to sitting in a lock up, they will be fine after a quick skim.
The drivetrain issues don’t worry me.
The Body / Chassis ...
Both front wings and all doors are getting replaced so all “bolt on” items don’t concern me.
I didn’t know about the front chassis legs. They reckon it’s due to incorrect jacking (not by me) .... you know the rest.
The corrosion on the rear 1/4 panels at boot edges isn’t as bad as it sounds, it’s more very light pitting which hasn’t holed.
The elephant in the room is the sills and the torsion beams mounts. I knew about the mounts as that was the whole reason for the car getting inspected as it was myself that found the hole initially, and at 26 years old I’m not surprised the sills are past it, Iv seen worse.
So all in all nothing massively bad for an early 90s car.
The resto shop did say that it’s in way better condition than most of the 80s and 90s cars that come in and defo a sound car that is worth the effort to save. They were expecting the floors to be rotten so where happy to see they were solid.
Discussing the sills, they have asked me to price the original sills which I know come with the 1/4 panels for the rear, they have said that they can make new sills but it won’t be cheap, also the rear arches are not good so by the time they have fabricated all these sections I may be cheaper buying the genuine items.
Interested in your thoughts.
