5 GT Turbo Fluffy

Well after a year of No Fluffy - enough is enough, got him back on the road only to find running issues with anything over 10psi of boost where it would cut out and would not go past 15psi and generally felt pap. Anyway, after changing plugs, leads etc I decided to change the coil as a last ditch attempt. That sorted it, and back to 21psi and flying like a good un.

I'm now at a cross roads again.

Do I go F4r or rebuild the old lump with my lumpy cam and the rebuilt T28 with a .57 on the back?

Get the cam and turbo back on. Keep it c1j (y)
I know, I know, but I just love the idea of a 2ltr lump, not tappety tappetty highly strung C1J. Not that I don't love it when it's singing along. Saturday morning was a hoot. The other thing is that I need to find somebody who is going to re-balance my turbo after I put it back together. Anyone know anyone?

Engine conversions are great if you want loads of power but the achilles heel is always the gearbox sadly and it costs a small fortune to change to something decent. Good 200hp setup with the old trusty c1j and maybe slip a lsd in:)

The other thing is perspective.

180 bhp has to be the best amount of power for a fast road car, and it is a great amount of fun, punchy, hard and will destroy most things on a quick squirt basis, 230 bhp is good but feels to rough on road as you need to batter it more due to cam choise and turbo spec, but better on track. But on track, even at 230 bhp you're going to find problems with the long straights and you are working the C1j very hard. 230bhp on track (and this isn't even competition) is very average, you will be beating a lot of other cars, but you still need more.

As for the gearbox situation, I'm led to believe the standard box is good for 250bhp and I agree, when hunting serious power, the gearbox conversion is the thing that would put most off.

Turbos not a problem Andy, Bernie can sort that.
Sent him a message via E-Bay budski. I'm looking at this turbine along with this Housing as the .49's are no longer available as far as I can see. it should sit half way between the .49 and the .63. I have found somebody who will balance it for me if Bernie is not keen.

C1j is fine even on the power tracks at 230hp. When i done croft last year it didn't get a sweat on lap after lap. Efi should be super reliable at that kind of power to be honest (y)
I know - it's a state of mind thing. I am building the C1J back up over winter and looking to get that back in and running on the .57 back end + Cat Cam (285 ish) and modified cylinder head to see if I can get it breathing a bit better. DC's breaths very well and produces some great power at relatively lower boost pressures. I'll collect parts for the F4r in the mean time.

Ive seen the .57 before was tempted to try it however the .64 always seems ok on my setup,a little bit of lag does not hurt ;)
