exhaust hangers

Guest

right, i have a valver and i just wondering if my exhaust is supported properly.

i was putting a cat on for the mot when i noticed there was a hanger not being used on the center box, pretty much directly behind the cat. Infact, not only was it not being used, it had been bent down! i had a look but i couldn't see anywhere for that hanger to attach to on the car, though thats not really saying much as the car wasn't jacked up very high.

just wondering if there should be somewhere for this hanger to attach to, or maybe i have a williams exhaust, as i remember reading they have an extra hanger somwhere.

thx

yup willliams had a mount aft of the cat. it is a part you can buy and should have been fitted to the 16v too the lazy sods

My hangers are slowly letting go and i now have a lovely knocking noise where the exhaust is resting on the rear beam

I hate that noise Mr Moongoose love's to do it

i have a mongoose that uses group A mounts and with a little tweaking doesn,t knock.

Ive been wondering what the hell the knocking noise was thats been coming from the rear of the car for ages!! On inspection when the car was statonary with the handbrake on it looked like the zorst was hung fine, but after reading this thread ive just twigged that this is what it will probably be! Sounds like the spare wheel cage rattling but even when i put the spare back in it does it so it must be the exhaust

can't wait to get the cat off after the mot! the bloody thing touches the body, not so much a rattle than a full time judder lol

Mike the ORG doesnt do that, it will knock the rear beam if you go over a speedbump but it doesnt rest on it.

YOu need to slap a rubber on the elbox just before the backbox (and the rear beam) its touching the chassis.

even my shitty standard RT exhaust does that,

altho i found my exhaust rubber on the floor when i moved the car, thats besides the point :P

Still fitting new ones is easier with some washing up liquid at hand to help slip them on - but mine still rattled at 5,000rpms. When I changed my exhaust I didn't bother with hangers until the rattling started

i run the willy mount on the corner, its literally a little plate with the hangar welded to it and bolts on same fixing as the heatsheild at that point. or least thats what i have had added, may be o/e maybe fabricated? either way works a charm for keepin it hanging nice and tight to the body! 8)

neil, more info on ur exhaust please matey and relation to turbo application, no boxes, restriction, bore, etc etc? cheers matey, only am starting to realise that my exhaust aint got a hope in hell of passing noise regs for track days

spoke to a turbo mate of mine and he says i,ll need 3/3.5 inch to stop losing power at 300bhp. so i,m having a system custom made as soon as i,m running.

not sure what will fit so i,ll let you know. but on turbo engines as the exhaust turbines acts as all the back pressure you will ever need then you can,t really go to big. so i,ll will let you know. should do a before and after really if i have time.

cheers mate

i dont want it too big, i'm not keen on massive slash cut exhausts etc, and as i said needs to hit noise limits on track days

am gonna get mine tested anyway as is and see, but i need a back up plan!
