Detailing my vee

Hi guys - i cleaned my vee a week ago (i use Greased Lightning Showroom Shine) I noticed that the paintwork was still 'rough' to the touch. I don't trust myself to clay bar it so i had a pro to look this morning, he said he would clay it and then there are options (waiting for email) he mention a "glass type" top coat - done over two days - prob around £480 to do. He mentioned a Range Rover he did over a year ago and coating was still on it Can I just ask you guys if you have any thoughts on this ? I don't want to spend £480 for 'a better' finish if it dissappears in 6 months - I can't really afford to keep doing this so my thoughts were get the paint smooth and then i trust myself to clean it in the best way i am capable of. I don't mind paying for extra protection as i use the car most days but it has to last to make it viable. Any thoughts are greatly appriciated [smilie=thanks.gif]

Hi Craig. There's lots of options on what's available as coatings go. I have used Gtechniq C1, which I didn't get on with & Exo V2 which was a joy to use. Maintained correctly it should see a good year to 18 months. But, as I say there's a huge choice. The paintwork must be pretty mint, ie swirl/blemish free.

If yours has swirls then a machine polish is a must, which isn't a quick job. Even for mine it took me 5 days where the paint wasn't necessarily bad, it's just a very time consuming job. I for one could not do it in two days.

Thanks 4 that. In ref to swirls as far as I know or have noticed I have none apart from a faint side to side mark on the roof - I would say a bad attempt to remove some dried on bird poop ! Only visable from close up. So prep wise shouldn't b 2 bad the car was wet this morning so was hard 4 him 2 see . I will await his email and see what products he will use.

Sorry Dawn - My memory is poo !! When I signed the paper work at Scotts he told me the car could do with a clean - I also emailed him ref any recommendations in this area. He mentioned Dawn on here and you could possibly do a detail at his place? I like the idea of it being done at home (less hastle for me) Sorry - i just plain forgot :rollseyes:

Update - supreme detailing in Chippenham going to do 14 hour valet removing swirls and obvious including g techniques lsp coating !! 475 - if I can tame technology o will take before and after shots - note to self - reduce quality - !!!! I bet I forget !

Update again - last week was right off due to weather came yesterday but gave up - I'm getting frustrated - but 2day he here all day - 3 clay bars used ! Roof and arches obviously REALLY contaminated - he applying g2 technic 2moro aqua thingy so will TRY and post photos 2moro of finished product @ £475 done. I just hope it looks even more stunning as it did b4 £475 spent !!!!

Oh the sun arrived a couple of days ago and I didn't realise the stunning paint the vee has - I no its metalic but it had such a nice "flake" in it !! I want more sun to sit and admire the paint job now it's REALLY clean

Hi guys - Chris finished it 2day - air play 2 him !! We've had rain, hail, sleet and snow !! He has footage of him applying final coat under his brill "gazebo" with it snowing outside - I have a bad case of flu at mo so pictures r at the bottom of my list - but I did run my fingers over the roof and it is as smooth as a babies bum !!! I am hoping I feel better 2moro so I can have a good look but just by feel it's a cracking job anyway I will post again when I don't feel like I'm on deaths door !! Lol.

Ok i feel an update needs to be put up - my previous comment has to stand that the paintwork was smooth as a babies bum - BUT - he said to me i will come back to do a mini valet to "clean any bits i have missed " I emailed him to make sure he received final payment (475.00 total) no answer, a couple of weeks later asked about the mini valet no answer - i got so fed up with looking at all the white residue on all the black seals and inside the doors etc i spent two and three quater hours yesterday doing it myself - but i really struggled to get most of the 'white flecks' off of the rubbers !! The skuttle panel or the black plastic trims around the wipers are ruined at mo i cant get it off ??? i didnt have time to do the window rubbers but i bet these will be a pain ! Nearly five hundred quid , no reply's and he even signed up on here cause he liked my car ! Please - Prob magpiev6 could you tell me the best way (without damaging the rubbers) how to remove the remenants of G-technic aqua (something ) from all the black rubbers on my now quite frankly filthy v6 clio ! :s i am so dissappointed i was hoping to give him more work by recommending him ! but i have for my mate with a fairly new car so not so messy - chris has all the kit but it looks like take the money and bye bye ! I really hope im wrong i always look positive but it has been to long to leave my v6 in such a state and now i am picking white bits off the rubbers individually with my nail ! Nothing else seems to get it off Jesus Christ what the hell goes through peoples heads ! This is my pride and joy (as he knows) i know he couldn't finish it due to weather but this was ages ago, no replies etc i hope he reads this but if you are i will rely on people here to help me finish your £475.00 valet (no internals either) I'll stop now cause im getting angry But i would really appriciate your advice magpiev6 :salut:
