SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooo after the demise of the shit kicker clio i had a think about what to get to replace it........

A few weeks ago when collecting my work van from the garage i noticed a clio 182 stuck at the back of the compound looking sorry for itself. Initially i did make a few calls to find which garage it belonged too (there's a few in the same place) but i didn't really follow it up as i wasn't really in the market for one and the asking price was a little high. I did a little research on the car and found its old mot's also letting me know how long it'd been off the road. Came in at 3+years! It was covered in green mold but other than that i knew nothing and didn't have a proper look. Anyway after the car let go i thought id give it another look. I went down on the quiet to take a better look at it. It wasn't too pretty inside but on the outside she was very straight and looked like it just needed some tires from a first look. An offer was made without knowing it ran but was countered. I agreed a price for it if it was a runner and here i am today with another Renault needing work...........

So jez and myself headed off to the garage for 9 ish this morning to "tow" the car home, probably about 3 miles tops. No biggy really, jez had a tow bar and i had dug out a clio towing eye. Turned up to see the car in its sorry state but out of the bush and with a fresh battery on she jumped into life. I was told the alternator had been disconnected as it started to smoke on the jump pack. Not sure if its duff or was just massively overloaded with the original 4 year old battery on so ill take a look at that. Also the heating wasnt working and the clutch pedal was on the floor. Both not massive issues but the car was frozen on the inside as its soaked in there! Out came the window scraper and we got her hooked up the the tow vehicle. We made good progress for about 15 meters and then on the first proper load up of the bar BANG!!!!! the clio towing eye sheared off. FFS now were stuck with a car that has no clutch cable and looks like its been pulled out of a bush........ I wont go to much into it but the car has made it home with a very brief trip on the road under its own power.....

How she was on collection

The car does have a powerflow back box...... and what looks to be apex lowering springs but apart from that everything looks to be OEM even down to an unsnapped ecu bracket and the acoustic valve pipework and airbox feed!

Got it back home, and dumped it on the grass for a few hours, need to get rid of the shit kicker clio to free up some space. All i have managed to do so far was rinse the worst of the grime off using a 1 bucket and 1 sponge method lol and fairy liquid. Just to take a quick better look and make it a little more presentable. There are a few marks around the car but not many, and i do hope most will polish out with minimal effort. So over the next week or 2 i hope to get the car fixed and ready for a mot. Jez has donated alternator to the cause and another friend has a clutch cable. If they fix the issues ill just need a bonnet latch, tires and a dam good interior cleaning/drying and it "should" get through a test. I might find more bits needed once i get under it but to be fair it goes and stops ok so far.....

Up close with the grime that seems to have helped protect the car

And after a quick rinse. Ill dig out the pressure washer for a proper going over soon (y)

Not had much time to tinker tbh. Managed to hoover some bush out of the engine bay and get the airbox out of the way to investigate the clutch issue. Ive picked up a spare cable but the issue looks to be the ratchet mech. Ive removed it and its sezied solid so the teeth arnt engaging
at all. I did get the scuttle off but cant see anything that would indicate a blockage. I did swap out the heater resister so i now have a working heater fan. slowly slowly

I did find another bit of plastic loose bellow the pedals that i am told is part of that mech, finding a picture of one complete seems difficult. I have ordered another ratchet mech off ebay so hopefully i will get my clutch back.

I did start rebuilding another alternator for the car, but, i think i killed it. Though i do now know how to take one apart properly. Anyway with that another alternator was ordered (and skimlinked @andybond (y)) so that should hopefully be here before the weekend. All being well i should have it back driveable this weekend as long as theres nothing else majorly wrong with it. Also found a set of meg injectors for sale on fb from @bailia25 so they should be with me soon, just incase i need them for a turbo conversion in the future :ag:

My day was called short due to poor weather conditions. Lucky for me my clutch rathet had been delivered. All fitted up and i have a working clutch. i say working it engages gear and i can move it forwards and backward. Not actually tested on the road yet. Next im waiting for an alternator to turn up then i can fit that, fingers crossed thatll be tomorrow.

Inside is still minging as i havent touched that yet but hopefully itll road worthy very soon. This weekend if things go my way.....

Got called off work for a snow day today, no biggy ill use the time to play with the kids and then service the car.... Only an oil and filter swap for now. A quick sweep to move the snow and i was able to get it on stands. Underneath was a full undertray! dont even think my 2 year old cup when i had that still had one fitted! I did find a few broken wires that need attention but nothing major. Still waiting for my alternator to turn up though so couldnt get that sorted.

still waiting for my alternator to turn up....... got the car ready to have it fitted though. Bumper off followed buy the slam pannel and removal of the fubar bonnet latch. Using the pikey jubaliee clip method i released the tension off the old belt then rethreaded the new one ready to hook over the alternator when it gets here..... worst part was removing the bumper bolts that haven't been touched in many moons. Old belt wasnt in bad shape really, it has only covered about 15k. 20180303_121321.webp20180303_121325.webp20180303_111133.webp20180303_111319.webp

indeed, the bonnet was left cracked all the time it was parked up. Odd as the odd fixing on it (like the latch) are really crusty then others are untouched bar some surface furring. So far everything that has needed to come off has done with little effort though so cant complain to much.

Update on the alternator, got a tracking number, its been sat at the yodel depot for 2 days, less than 5 min from my house.............. pop round there to see if i can collect and the place is all locked up. Here in Glos everyone is back out and the roads are just wet so not sure why they are off the lazy fuckers

indeed but they want to see the car, a car that currently doesnt have mot or tax. ots ok a replacement from a breakers will cost me nowt

Managed a little more on the inside today. old underlay and carpet out and not soaking wet, crawling or green back in. Along with a few trim bits replaced and the frint door cards swapped out too. Ive also got an omp wheel on the way so will need to sort a switch panel out, can you help @Ricardo? im sure i had one off you but cant find it. Still need a few odds and sods and the alternator still hasnt arrived....

after soaking up but still minging
