3 Door 5 Campus

Yep I am not tackling the surround alone for fear or royalty fooking it up :) on the fence buying a nice new decent Mig with the right level of full control that also goes down to 30amp but hard to justify atm. Friend has a Tig he can bring to mine so should fine........famous last words ;)

So after it's successful trip I unloaded the Cup seats..................to find I've left the parcel shelf about 130 miles away in Newent..............what a nob.....rushing about I took shelf out, dropped rear seats to get Clio ones in back and chuffed they fitted, shut boat, paid up and fucked off......leaving shelf on top of Adeys neighbours pile of useless shite on his drive.

Got tape measure out and as runner area is then bolted onto another part of seat base, I had thought perhaps unbolt them, narrow it and make some adapter plates to bolt them back.................runners are way wider than 5, and staggered both in height and fore/aft.........looking like it's not worth the hassle.
Thought about making a mint driver seat out of pair, as both have a fag burn in but otherwise are really tidy, and selling that.

They're height adjustable and all that crap, so I whipped bottom squab off and had a measure and think only viable solution is drill/cut entire adjustable runner section off and weld 5 runner/cantilever bit on, so seats work as 5 ones do other than Clio recliner adjustment.
I don't want to arse around with floor on car, so seats will have to be chopped, lots of head scratching to be done, I don't want to chop them and weld and find when i tilt seat to get in back it's too tall and hits roof etc etc etc.

On further investgation, only drivers side is height adjustable, they weigh a feckin ton so drill all adjustment sub assembly off.....

Away it comes.....

Whip 5 passenger seat out, which actually drivers side that someone has welded fixed due to frame damage, and swopped over to other side,

I measured seat to bottom of rail on Cup seat before choppage, then kept cutting 5 base until I had it sat right, need some bracing plates at rear joins, but the idea is sound.

Fire it up, see what happens.....

Did the same when I picked up my meg engine, left the parcel shelf against the wall!! We ended up going back there a week later to pick it up! 1 1/2 hours each way! Decided to go to the seaside at the same time so it wasn't a wasted journey, kids enjoyed it so wasn't too bad!

Tacked it all, tried it with squab in, all good so welderup. Re purposed bits of 5 frame to brace it at rear.

5 frame tubes notched then welded to front cross bar of Cup seat. Frankinseat.......

Had to delete lift mech lever from door side and extend handbrake side to clear side of squab, and reverse it to get it away from seat belt.

Needs a shampoo, painted welded areas and put it back together, bit of pipe wrap to repair damaged foam on outer bolster.

Bolted in, now sit lower, haven't gained any rear movement, but now lanky has a bit of room for his legs under steering wheel.

So, Clio Cup seats do fit in a 5, took about six hours inc pondering, other side lacks height adjustment to delete, but seat bottom has much more pressed steel to it that'll need to go to get 5 runner/lift bit in, so it'll be more head scratching and measuring.

Cos everyone has a fat arse these days...

If you wonder why modern stuff is so weighty.....well it's in stuff like the seats,, the Cup drivers seat height adjustment bit weighs a load, even the rest of the seat weighs triple what the 5 seat weighs, which with the runner and lower frame chopped off is literally like a deck chair!

they look awesome in there, wish i had the skill set to do the same and fit them in the twiglet
I take it Twingo has different runner set up ?, I nearly didn't bother trying to get them in the 5, but the challenge was too much to resist, originals were far too squishy, wrong handed and seat in passenger position was welded fixed with no recline, Cup seats were cheap and expendable.....how could I not have a crack at it? 35 quid and it's a nicer place to be, more comfortable and looks tidier.

They look well in there , go for the wheel if you can . It transforms the car , I put the Gordini wheel on the hearing aid it was like fitting power steering on . Now you have had me measuring up the , taking the seat out of the 182 tonight for a play .

On this weeks episode of Fartskinners....

I suspected fuel pump to be a little lacking, squeezing it on after 65mph coming back from RRG, it didn't seem happy......so I didn't push our luck, while ever it was happy to trundle along at that, I thought best investigate at home.
Asked my Dad to have a look through stock and see what mech pumps he had, turned up a couple.

One way way off, box said Traffic, other was identical but not quite......all casting was same, diaphragm, non return, same name and numbers in casting, but in/outlet was at 3 O'clock instead of 9 O'clock ( depending what time you think it is....) plus outlet to carb had restricted brass pipe, and return to tank on top had large steel outlet, basically these were swopped round compared with pump on car.

Long tale shortened, so i had a free pump, I took both to bits and built correct out of the two, lever arm was swopped, unions swopped, top spun 180 and bosh, all back on for the princely sum of feck all.....road tested and seems to have lost the odd stutter it had I thought might be pump jet, no ' High speed ' test yet, but we'll see.
