3 Door 5 Campus

Nope, just a warning light as OE on this, I wouldn't have been so frivolous on that 5 pound gauge now would I?...
This original proper poverty spec era, no clock, no temp gauge, no fag lighter, nadda ....nowt...just enough for 25 year old perky chested French fancy to zip about buying knick knacks n stuff....

My last campus was the same, was awesome. Its actually nice to drive a car with less gauges in, less to worry about and not too much of a biggy as long as its maintained and you have current AA or RAC membership

Most of the newer Renaults have gone back to no panic gauge too, Kangoo only has water temp light.
Old fella has just got a 2019 Clio summat and I don't think that's got one??
I just like to see what's going on, know when you can put heater on full tilt etc , know when it's safe to put choke in or if it's getting hot and bothered in traffic you wang heater on full chat, better to sweat than it boil.

Agreed its nice to see where its at, especially when parts are getting older and rad gets a bit furred up inside causing temps to creep up.

Well today's the day, over two years since I bought him it, at least 12 months weldathon I'm about to go from watching this that only seems like yesterday038.webp

To letting him loose in this.....no airbags, ABS, basically a sardine can with seatbelts....

What could go wrong????
Where have all the years gone???

Looks very smart indeed. I'm sure he will treat it with the respect it deserves and have many miles safe motoring. Sometimes all the safety features and sound deadening can give a sense of invincibility which can be more dangerous than having nothing.
Awesome job!

@Turbell . Ryan I have just read this through and it was clever, skilled, engaging, informative, and definitely the best laugh I have had this year, Liz thought I had lost the plot completely! As my son progressed through his teens I found my interest in old French shite waning away, as you know I sold the 2 8's about 3 years ago, and only kept the Dauph as it was unfinished and therefor not worth very much. I also made the mistake of working on other peoples stuff to help finance my own endeavours, but it removed the fun completely. Motor racing has also changed from when I started until now, we used to get left alone in the classics, but now have a load of refugees from the modern section who's 6 figure budget is nowhere in today cars, but gives you a top line classic. Recently the Mojo has returned a bit and as my son has passed his test over 2 years ago and is now driving contract work for the local taxi firm, as his band has been wiped out in a business sense this year. This means that I have got some of my workshop back as the touring gear is all packed away and does not need to be in pole position every weekend, letting me get the Dauph out of the bubble, also I have a helper who has designs on competing in Dad's unwanted toy. I can't really blame him after the upbringing he had ' I blame the parents'
All the best from one idiot to another

@Steve Swan
Ta very much, glad I amused/entertained you!
I don't take myself too seriously, it's all playtime for me, if we can have a laugh, life is so much more enjoyable.
I can identify with you comments, things that were all consuming begin to be less important......age ? Dunno, I also ended up doing more for others as a side income and it probably soured some of my interest, so I wound it right back for now, got a few ends to tie off, I don't like leaving things unfinished.
I can't seem to bag anything new to play with, I got down to last three sealed bids on Semple 1100 8G, thought it might be my keeper, but deeper pockets prevailed, had a couple of A310s on the hook , but both slipped away.
Social media seems to have dragged old Renault's from the shadows......people getting jizzy over bog spec 11's,
Forums don't seem to have the pull now, it's a pity, at least on TR you can have a look back at people's stories, ups, downs, mistakes and successes, Facebook......well I've just deleted a paragraph on that, not my bag.
Here's to idiots......

I picked up the phone to call Brian to say just put that 8G aside, but managed to put it back down again, been there done that. It is a really nice car with great history, it has gone to an enthusiast who I think is going to keep it. Brian called me to talk over its value and then advertised it much cheaper I think his phone nearly melted! Three people called me to ask about it and I told them all to buy it , it was a nice genuine car. Dave Wheeler and I always felt R8's were totally underrated. My G was as fast as any all steel 1700 Escort it came up against and it was slightly quicker round the twisty bits , its Achilles heel was braking, a rear engined car will not outbrake a front engined car, but once through the apex the tables are turned.. I'm going to try to get my Dauph thread into gear please feel free to add some humour !
I don't do social media, but may have to give in, forums are better for threads, but I suppose facebook works better for 'what happened today' comments . What happened to John Whitby's 8S ???

I was flying a bit high with the 8G, asked Brian what number he wanted me to say to buy it....but he wouldn't be drawn.
John W's 8S went for scrap, he offered it my Dad gratis.....I know..I know...
Get cracking with Daup thread, I need some inspiration.
Facebook has its uses, probably Instagram is good as well, I just don't know enough about them, I suppose

Facebook is good for the instant gratification, quick answers sometimes and easy contact I guess. It lacks archived content and the ability to find and answer from information and relies heavily on the info people hold and are willing to share, this plays to some peoples egos where they feel like they are the go to person and holder off all information. I much prefer a forum but the info within them is getting lost as they fade away. Its why we at TR try and get everything we can hosted here in one place. Instagram is great, I use it a lot but then I guess I like using it to show what I've been doing, sad actually, doing it for the likes I guess? Gives me plenty of pictures to look at though. Is it really that different to getting a car published in a magazine? I had my old r5 in magazines a few times and I was contacted for it after a picture someone else took got loads of likes on facebook.. With modern mobile technology they are easily used and integrated into our daily routines, something too look at whilst having a poo instead of a paper or the back of a shampoo bottle lol.
