3 Door 5 Campus

Think there's twenty quid difference on a gallon of cavity wax between opie and direct from bilt, then free delivery over 60 quid, so depends how much you're spending.

What a load of sheet................

One little run and a few foreign bodies clinging on, but good enough for me...........

Leave it a while to harden off then de-nib it, bit of a buff, be reet enough?
Sorted areas I bolloxed up with gravitex and gave rear beam a can of poundstretchers finest black aerosol.
Wheel cylinders look newish, quick polish and see how they go, brake shoes and bearings all look good, so think build brakes up with new pipes where needed.....cavity wax in some areas........but gotta remember to miss where I haven't finished, plus boot floor is going to want paint by the time I've finished.
Doing a car a bit at a time can be frustrating, swapping about from welding to paint, to mechanical, but this way I haven't got a massive pile of shite everywhere and after only a few months I can see shiny.

Nice work mate

Thanks very much, pleased now I'm not constantly chopping out, even though there's plenty to do, it feels like I'm making progress.

Mask off and a quick buff of the line I'd scratched up on the swage, but I haven't de-nibbed the new paint yet, I just wanted to see what the match was like

Rear beam back in and bolted up, rear brake cylinders were toasted and I'm short of tube nuts for the pipes, all ordered, but I'll see what I can cadge and fit the rear old cylinders so I can see if I keep it rolling today, get tank on etc

Last weekend at NEC for Classis car show, so only a few hours here and there on 5, but lots of cleaning up fasteners, cavity waxing chassis legs, tank back in rear brakes on, new wheel cylinders, one new wheel bearing, couple of attempts at routing tank breathers...pic below is wrong, but since sorted.
2018-11-13 163853-1775703.webp

One new brake pipe, all others were just re-flared, new flexis. Couldn't bring myself to paint pipes green though..........
One rear damper was a new Sachs, whilst the other was fooked OE, bit of patience trawling fleabay hooked me this..........

2018-11-17 124713-1893930.webp

Twelve quid ......free post matches other exact......gotta love a bit of part number searching!
So a twelve quid shock, a nine quid wheel bearing, twenty quids worth of wheel cylinders and a tenners worth of flexis ...........and about a grands worth of welding and it's starting to look pretty decent.2018-11-17 131607-1215974.webp

De -nibbed lower quarter and buffed up rest of panel, it's a shade lighter but, I ain't fussed....

2018-11-14 193533-1412350.webp

Bit of shrinkdown on H/B cables where outer was damaged and a quick lube and now we have brakes, I've dropped it off stands and fitted the rear clio/twingo steels......sitting a bit high, but I'll see how it settles when interior /bumper etc is back on, I don't hold much hope of bars coming out to tweak it down, I'll probably go with some GT lowering springs on front that are on ebay ATM, but I don't want to make it too obviously modded for insurance purposes.

Colder, darker nights, blah blah......work slowing down.
Car back on wheels, temp exhaust on, was gonna spin it round and chop N/S sill off, but still bits to do on O/S, door had rot near hinges,

Chopped out, inner where hinge is repaired, then skinned up, ground, blow over with a bit of paint, bottom of outer to do due to scabs.
Hinges on door and shell had been partly drilled out and then some bigger roll pins part wanged in, not sure what was intended.........but I've just drilled them all out to 8mm and I'll use some M8 part threaded bolts and nylocs.
Bottom of wing was goosed, so I chopped it off and started again.2018-11-25 145213-1870941.webp

Bit of a cow to get right, but happy enough.

Etch, bit of filler, gravitex bottom, then paint this and bottom of door should take next week or two up, get door on , then theres a bit up top of door post i might tackle before i spin it round for other sill.

Got door and wing painted, just patch lower of both in, need de nibbing and a buffing , picked the windiest day possible ..........so there's loads of dust in the paint, but It'll come out OK.
Plenty thickness to cut back, a few pics from skimming scabs off, treat, prime etc

Aldi's finest halogen heater doing it's bit..........

Had a quart of paint left over , so tried brushing it on the back of the arch where I'd patched the filler neck bracket, I'll need to paint the boot floor after the repairs so thought if it looked OK brushed here, I'd do rest of floor same way.......looks bob on.....carpet will be over the fecker anyway, and wasn't looking forward to spraying inside the car! ....so I'll seal it up and brush away!

Top of door post onto lower windscreen area needed a little attention.

2018-12-08 130603-1783992.webp

Fook knows what cars are like here that have visible rot on bottom of screen corners............door post is a double skin, outer with hinges affixed is a thicker gauge, bottom of screen outer panel has braze metal present..........It's not an area i would relish if it was much worse than this............it'll not stop people bidding silly money for crusty 5GT's though, but be prepared for headaches!

2018-12-09 130253-1801369.webp

I didn't go mad here, a good look inside the door post and all was virgin black paint, so I wire knot brushed it all in grinder,so i could see what was what, chopped top triangle area out plus down to cable entry hole, slipped a right angle piece in down as far as hole and a triangle piece in at top, extending across to rid the crusty bit at the top of the post.
Other side of inner wing that was pitted is battery area and was perfect, so I just cleaned it back.
Left the bottom unsealed so any moisture can drain, Bilt hamber, etch, sealer, blew a bit of rattle onto post so it looks tidy from inside car when doors open.
I'll probably black the bare sealer when the welding marathon moves to the front of the car.
Door back on with M8's and nylocs, wing on temp , a couple of gallons of juice and after a slight faux pas with reversed fuel lines......whoops....thats why it won't start! Ready to spin it round in garage, best put a seat in though.....
Boot floor prepped and sealed.

2018-12-09 170305-1287284.webp

Brushed paint with solid two pack I've been spraying with, just didn't bother thinning it, half a jam jar and slapped on heavy, bootiful!

2018-12-10 111550-1128483.webp

I fecked about rattling drivers footwell with some near enough paint, but this covers so well I think I'll do both footwells and inner sills like this, I only used half what I mixed.

Get seat in and spin car round now, so hopefully next updates will be the 'good' side getting done........we'll see how ' good' the 'good' side is......Ahem...

Only a couple of hours this weekend, but keep chipping away.
Spun car round, front N/S wing off for inspection, other than bumper mount and hooooooge piece of sealant about to make a bid for freedom on bottom of screen corner, all good, front panel, inners etc all minty....Quel surprise!

A little ginger chrome underneath.......but I'll accept that.

2018-12-10 144705-1363804.webp

Found spots for sill join, so I could drill them out,Sill isn't at all bad, other than MOT plate at join which has gone through.

2018-12-10 152134-1630696.webp

But I've got full sill, so I chopped back part off first, do all inner repairs, tie into sussy mount plate I replaced and make sure it's all nice and strong before rest is cut off.

2018-12-15 151132-1764837.webp

Naughty where two sections of inner join and back of JP

2018-12-16 130524-1486140.webp

I've got all shite chopped out, plate is on at JP, all tied in, little bit of return on floorpan done,

2018-12-16 151616-1476565.webp

Let a couple of bits in to inner in pic above, then I'll chop rest of outer off, should have a bit of time over Christmas break, missed my goal of having door posts back done, but I've more than broke it's back now.
