Got sick of chasing the holes round and did what I should have from the start on this area...will finish it off tomorrow and then focus on making jacking point. Welded from the underneath side just no pictures
This restoration game just eats hours and hours without even trying
Well couple of hours Wed and Thu evenings along with a decent 4 hour morning stint today.
Bit of prep and gave 2 coats of hydro80 before some red oxide paint, front jacking point were a million miles off and even after some inital cutting and shaping work was some way off as per pic but persevered and happy with it....need to finish welding front section and a few tweaks to the tab etc but most of the hard work done.
Then played around for a bit trying to dissect before deciding to just cut out the rust repair needed and make a new one.....put up a decent fight but def worth replacing and can do most on the bench which helps
Tomorrow hopefully get some time and bit of seam sealing, fiinsh jacking point and maybe even fire up spot welder
If you can make them fit, then they fit, pain in the arse, but that's how it goes, you'll get round it.
You're getting through it, that's all that matters, chip , chip, chip at it at this pace and it'll soon be done.
Enjoying watching your progress, great work, great thread
So today's 90min makeover managed to finish measuring, cutting bending and welding of the jacking mount and all good other than one small weld needed but dry fit looking good
Few more sessions in the garage...note to self spot and plug welding with stonechip stuff on even when areas clean = pita, melts and orrible stuff. But it's solid and not moving
Feeling really happy with todays session. Loads of time prepping for spot welder action but did the trick and fusing well
Got time to finish first pass off hammer and dolly bottom sill edge round as going to seam weld that in also....I like to go over the top at every opportunity
Some absolutely fabulous work going on here @Duncan Grier !!! Sheās going to be as solid as a rock when complete, and the satisfaction you will have from knowing every stitch, seam and weld is spot on will be so satisfying!!!
