Options are:-
* Superchips
* Dasktek Unichip
* SMT6 (via Andy @ GDI)

What about RS tuning remaps (think there's a thread about it).

I have a superchip but I think a custom remap would be much better.

OK, so...

Options are:-
* Superchips ~£300
* SMT6 (via Andy @ GDI) ~ £800
* RS Tuning remap (not sure of ECU) ~ £300
* Motec full ECU upgrade ~ £4k+

A rolling road printout before and after is a must.

we are able to do full ecu remaps on the rollers now as well.... circa £700, takes all day to do..

After the zorst group buy is out of the way a few of us with be looking into this. The question is what could we expect to gain (more torque, better spread of torque, lower power band, more power etc)? It's hard to justify / sell this sort of thing with unknown gains.

I really need to known as accurately as possible what we would gain with a custom remap on:

a 100% std mk1
a mk1 with a new back box or induction kit.
a mk1 with a new back box and induction kit.
a mk1 with a full new zorst system.
a mk1 with a full new zorst system and induction kit.
a 100% std mk2
a mk2 with a new back box or induction kit.
a mk2 with a new back box and induction kit. :wink:
a mk2 with a full new zorst system.
a mk2 with a full new zorst system and induction kit.

The thing is i'm guessing no one knows with any certainty! :roll:

Which means we would be investing £700 and invalidating any warranty etc for unknown benefit.

I would expect a remap to give at least a 5% gain, with a nicer power curve.

It think its probably one of the cheapest ways to get more BHP out of the V6.

The RS tuning seems a lot better deal than GDI, over £400 cheaper, but maybe it isn't as good a remap. It would be nice if RS tuning and GDI had before and afters on their repsective sites to give an indication of the gains for the mk1 and mk2 v6.

My understanding of the RS Tuning system is that it's much like the Superchips option.

The GDI SMT6 option sounds the best route so far - a custom map that won't break the bank (and I presume can be removed easily if required?).

Andy - would you be interested in a Group deal on SMT6s?

The superchip gives 10bhp power increase (they have the graph on their site). This equates to a 5% power increase for the mk1.

ok that's a fair call, but do you believe you'll get those improvements on the road when it's fitted to your car?

I can't say to be honest (superchip was on my car before I bought it) but looking at bang for your buck it is a cheap option.

I think a custom remap is better than a premap (chip) though because the premap will be mapped for increasing power on a standard Vee, whereas a custom map can be designed to get the most out of your mods too (I could be wrong about this though).

the £700 is a little expensive, and we are looking to organise a better price for you guys...

probably about 25% off if we get enough numbers.

this is not an off the shelf chip... its mapped to get the best from whatever mods the car has...

cams
exhaust
inlet etc etc

if enough of you are interested we could do a couple a day i would have thought....

Sounds like a great deal Andy - thankyou! :D How many would you need?

Sounds good guys BUT as a few have asked we need to have some sort of idea of what we can expect from the outlay depending on our individual cars mods. Superchips claim 10BHP on a std mk1. With induction and exhaust mods i'd hope for a little more gains on a mk2! The way to sell it is with proven figures.

I guess the problem is if the car starts at significantly under the quoted power figure (as has been seen in most cases!). :roll:
