Hi,

Just about getting my Vee on the road and was wondering what you guys would advise in terms of programmable chips as i intend to add a few performance mods over time. A few ppl on the cliosport site have mentioned the Omex 600/700 but they are quite old posts. What kinda gains with just chip?
Who stocks what and who is licenced to program?

Thank you all.

Steve :lol:

Some club members have Dastek and Superchips. Do a search above for "chip" a few interesting threads to read.

You may also want to speak to Andy at GDI ( see banner below ) for all this.

Welcome to v6clio.net Steve

Hi Mate,
I've got a custom map from DMS Automotive, which completely changed my Mk 1! much sharper throttle response, rev's alot easier & was noticably quicker. They claim about 26bhp & 18lb/ft torque, but i've not had her on the rollers yet.

Gains from a remap alone are unlikely to exceed 10-12bhp. Improved throttle response will contribute to the car feeling quicker/more responsive.........

Acknowledged!! But i will get it on the rollers, just to see, i guess the remap with induction kit & back box will give nearer 15bhp?? maybe that might get me up to 230bhp!! :lol:

Mine gave 15bhp and 12Ibft (215.8bhp at the wheels now) with the K&N apollo kit fitted....before and after power curves to prove it too! Tempted to get a custom remap from ECC to improve on this!

Took mine on the rollers and got 209 at the wheels with just a filter, maybe want the plugs looking at, Got trw1s old decats, waitin for delivery on a k-tec box and then want a chip and map to set up. What would be the best chip for these mods?

heard good things about this "DMS Automotive" how much did it cost all in Jay?

Anyone had a Dastek chip fitted yet? There was a thread about it a while back? Or anyone had a superchips on a Mk2?

I can feel a purchase coming on! :wink:

Peter :D

FYI I have mailed Dastek and Superchips about specifics on new maps for mk2 v6's. I have specifically asked for before and after dyno traces to highlight gains.

I'll post up any responces.

Peter :D

Dastek (Unichip) have just got back to me. Unichip is not currently available for the mk2 (not sure about mk1). But it should be ready Q4 this year.

So are all the chips mentioned require the ecu to be sent in? Are there any plug and play chips available?

FYI superchips got back to me:

Dear Peter

Thank you for your interest shown in Superchips.

Superchips reprogramme the ignition timing and fuelling maps of the car's on-board computer (Electronic Control Unit), resulting in:

· Increased torque, or pulling power, which reduces the need for gear changing.

· Optimised power output, giving smoother performance and better response (for example when overtaking).

· The potential for greater fuel economy, when driven carefully.

When fitted with a Superchip, the Renault Clio V6 255bhp would gain up to 10 bhp and an increase of up to 10% in torque (detailed power and torque curves are included, if available).

The car's fuelling is carefully managed to avoid compromising fuel economy and retain the long term reliability of the engine. For your peace of mind, a Superchips warranty is included - at no additional cost - for vehicles that are still covered by the original manufacturer's warranty.

Our approved agents within your area can be viewed on http://www.superchips.co.uk . The modification usually takes about an hour, and costs £293.75* including installation and VAT. (*UK Price subject to change,subject to agent verification. Regional price variations on installation may apply).

If you require any further information or assistance, please do not hesitate to call.

Yours faithfully

I have mailed them back to ask what gains they have seen before in testing as this is still vague. I doubt they have tested with a mk2.

Peter

Very interesting...

I've thought about chipping mine and to me there are three options:-
* Superchips
- had one of these on my Fiesta RS Turbo and it was awful
it overfuelled the engine something cronic!
* Dastek/Unichip
- I've read good and bad things about these. They seem to be
only as good as the person mapping the car. So, if they've never
mapped a V6 I'd be a little worried that they were 'guessing'.
* SMT6
- GDI use these and have had great results with the 172/182.
Expensive (£600-800) vs. the Superchip.

I seem to recall someone on here or cliosport.net having a Superchip on a Mk1 V6 and reckoning it was great. There's also a link on their website to a power curve:-
http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/cliov6.pdf
...13bhp and 46Nm isn't too shoddy.

There was a mention a while back about a Superchips ICON system - some form of reprogrammable key system???

All in all, £300 doesn't seem bad for a marginal increase especially if it removes some of the low rev hesitancy/lag.

Maybe if a bunch of us are interested we could get a club deal?

Im intrested, was looking at the superchip, iv been told they have a 'key' which you can revert to standard at anytime using the 'key'. My local agent qouted me £275 fitted.

Some nice new Motec twin throttle body control units are being approved as an add on for the M600 / 800 ECU and then all you need is twin throttle bodies and Trophy plenum chamber.

But I guess if you guys think 800 squids is expensive then you would be better spending your loose change on Zymol Clay and Vintage Wax.

Happy polishing :twisted:
