I have competed in hillclimbs and sprints for the last 4 - 5 years in a gordini turbo. With regards to the "rules" its only if you start beating people who are spending loads of money getting other people to setup their cars that you start to run into trouble most people are very friendly and helpfull and are just there for fun.
Often as long as you dont advertise the fact you are in slightly a "grey area" there isn't a problem. When you have a close look at alot of the cars you realise some are more legal than others!!!
