The 1957 Dope Dauphine

Loving the thread , had to chuckle about the lane wandering I did exactly the same in my Lhd 5 It takes a few miles to get used to it . Not to familiar with this model I only saw a few 8 and 10s nothing of this vintage, will be watching with interest.

Feck all VED is the way forward....
Power wise, a bit more is doable, but it ain't ever gonna fly, you'll have looked at 904 kits, but it'll all add up by the time you've got everything else and it machined and built and unless you're big into fab'ing getting anything serious in there will be difficult and expensive.....it is what it is.
Full arse end out of an 8/10 is best shot......but they ain't on Gumtree for a swizzle stick and a fingerin'.........

yeah the rebuild seems to be a big bill for not enough gain in my eyes. Was given the same info, r8 4 speed box and 1100 will go in there with minimal fuss its just finding one, and then finding it at a decent price.

I have found that the dizzy drive is kind of floating about, that might of caused my intermittent holding back and hesitation. So will sort that to start with and maybe a few new ignition components. Ill pull the plugs too and see what they look like. Full service is in order and i think it has a water leak somewhere. I did read somewhere that a 32mm carb gives a decent gain.

Might just bosh a tiny turbo on the side and run 3 psi for a little increase in power lol

This car is achingly awesome @Adey and I'm delighted you've got it back!!

You know what I'm like - so I would try and keep any modifications you make, easy to revert if you want to bring it back to original some time in the future... but a paltry 27bhp definitely needs improving.

What about something from the period that was meant to be in the back of the car..? A Hilmann Imp or Skoda (something).

I would guess if you start to push 2-3 psi up the arse of that motor, it will let go fairly quickly..?

Little three mains engines run happily enough on the edge of fecked, you wouldn't know until you pulled it apart, I'm about 1500 quid in on a rebuild to standard for someone, zero labour rate ,purely because if it's not right I can't leave it whilst I'm there.

No idea tbh, id like to go sneaky mapable ignition but the 6v setup wont allow that currently. Could slap an AMR300 supercharger on there? cant be that dissimilar to the judson superchragers? in a draw through setup. Were not talking about massive boost just a few to help it along......

NIppon Denso Kubuto alternators go on easy, minimal require, ditch separate reg, bosh a fuse box in and pick up circuits one by one, depends on crank pulley though, you'll need a later one to get ratio right ....forgot about that, but it fits nice, few washers/spacers and a new belt.
Long term I'm thinking of efi on mine, not for power but I'd like to feck about with a speeduino or similar....just cos

so popped out to have a quick look at the dope, thought I'd give it a quick fire up, no joy........ easy start........ no joy......... add a 12v battery still no joy. urgh.

I wanted to give it a little freshen up anyway so thought I'd pull the plugs. I think they have been there since the 60s

I use L87YC Champion, can't remember if they're short reachers, but they cross ref to BP6HS, earlier 745cc versions of that lump have short reach plugs ...H8's....but there may be short, short-short and longer variants of that size of plug....I'm not sure..?
Think when I've messed around with plugs in bare heads, short/shorter reach plugs sit well back....like there's threads showing...I only know what I'm doing at that precise time....then I forget....

I went for the bp6hs as a chap in fb (Duncan) said thats what he uses. just trying to confirm the points set i need and I'll order that too. I've been told it's a sev junior type dizzy.

Can you replace the points with a proper dizzy cap and (is it) wasted spark set up??
