Anyone any ideas? It has happened a few times now. It always starts just struggles and runs fine afterwards.

cheers

mine does it. all fun and games. only happens when its left for over an hour after being driven. seems to be ok after 3 or 4 hours of being sat there once its cooled down properly.

Could be the fuel vent in the fuel tank - next time it happens try opening the fuel tank filler cap and if air is released (i.e. whoosh sound) then thats the problem.

Every Mk1 I have ever seen does it heh. It's fuel vapourisation in the lines and can be cured apparently by insulating the lines if you can be bothered. It's never really annoyed me though because it does always start after a few seconds :)

I've never had this problem with my car though - and I live in Hong Kong where summertime can be 35c plus? My car always start on the button and only ever stuttered when my fuel pump was on its way out which took the dealer weeks to diagnose!
