sand blasting

Hi All

I just wondered if anyone has had experience with sandblasting the underside of a car with everything removed aiming to remove rust and under seal ? good or bad idea? I cant see there being a problem with doing it... Ive read a few things that some people saying they wouldn't recommend it. interested to know anyone's experience.
thanks

A lot of the stuff under there is too soft for a home sand setup, and you'll use a huge amount of sand too, its expensive. Best off taking the shell to somewhere that specialises.

Hi Chris, I had a gtt shell blasted and personally I wouldn’t recommend it. It is so aggressive it made holes everywhere. In places I thought were solid, all of a sudden there was a lot of extra repair work to do. These cars have metal that is too thin, it created work in areas that was not bad or structural and it opened a huge can of worms. The shell was a decent shell to start with, ocd got the better of me.

I think doing a bit by bit approach to your Resto project as some folk on here have done is the way to do it. There is some very good content on here for inspiration of how to tackle your under body Resto so read up and rethink I would say. Remember with old cars one job always escalates and turns into many. As soon as you start stripping down, things always escalate. Blasting or dipping seems like it’s the only way to do it properly but I wouldn’t say it is anymore and you could end up really damaging your shell and overwhelming yourself with the outcome.

I understand it is just underbody you are doing but I would still say reconsider blasting.
