quite shocking really, i had an Orion, that exact type as it happens, and was rear ended, although that doesnt actually show how fast the Renault was going

See how much damage was inflicted before the orions front wheel actually started turning. Also how the renault stayed the same shape for 95% of the smash.

so I need to get some fat mates and make them sit in the back if I drive an Orion :D:D, my padding on the front is enough that i dont need front airbags

u wrote it off like THAT? Ther wasn't much likelyhood of anyone surviving if they were in that Orion.

I expect you would see much the same thing if the situation were reversed with equivalent models, e.g. chamade getting hit up the chuff by a Granada.

You are not comparing like with like. The Renault is not only a size category above, it also has an engine, subframe, chassis etc at the front too - compared to the little orion which just has a pressed steel boot. What exactly were you expecting?

I think the fact that the rear seat passangers would be dead before it even touched the car in front (seat malaga?) is really rather bad!

"apparently" the Renault was doing 65, so now it doesnt seem suprising.

as Tom said tho, its an empty boot, so i wonder what todays cars are like when hit up the rear? i know they have crumple zones, blah blah blah, but they must deflect the impact somehow

19's stand up very well to crashes, renaults do in genearl alwasy do.

if a granada hit a 19 up the arse it wouldn't be that bad.

Also the front end of the 25 is just pressed steel just like the orions boot but the wheels etc are still in the same position and the negine is still running etc at the end of the impact.

Thinking about it, the Orion is probably more comparable to a R9 than a Chamade... which I bet would indeed fold up like a paper bag just like the Orion
