renault immobiliser and starting problems

James

hello

i have a couple of questions

1. the renault immobiliser on the 16v 19 phase 2 1993 what does it do to stop the car from working

2. the key lock on the scutttle surround around the battery that goes to the renault alarm what does this do is it an on/off switch for the immobilier/alarm

3. possibly linked to the above the car wont start has spark but pretty sure no fuel, pretty sure cant hear the fuel pump prime is this related to the above or has the pumped died.

4. is it possible to remove the renault alarm/immobiliser from the car and get the ecu decoded the car is fitted with an aftermarket immobiliser which im pretty sure is working fine.

this is an intermittent fault, the car when it starts runs fines, the battery is now fully charged but not in the car yet, also the central locking workis fine, i had the same problem at the beginning of jan after i put the engine back in, it did this for a few weeks then has been working fine up till yesterday it did it then went back to it later in the day and it ran then no go today
cheers

1: there are two versions for the immob iirc, one cuts off the fuel pump, the other cuts off the injectors which is based on the ecu.

2: the key lock on the scuttle is to turn the siren on or off.

3: Very possible, if the fuel pump is priming, its prolly he injectors not firing if its affected by the 2nd type of immob

4: Yes its possible if its the type that kills the fuel pump, there should be a control box either under the dash heater control panel or under the centre console, but thats as much as i can tell you, never removed one myself.
If its the type that kills the injectors which it sounds like you have, thats on the ECU as well and afaik, it would need the ecu or chip replacing if its the immob circuit thats messed up

cheers for that fella ansered most of me questions will go pop battery in the car and rest ecu and see what happens

will also have gander in the center console see whats there

right still not starting. the fuel pump is priming could not hear it earlier. the car turns over but wont fire.

could not see a control box in the centre console or under dash but did see another key slot where the radio cover clips into when its not over the radio what does this do

so i think i have the immobiliser which cuts off the injectors.

when you say chip replacing in the ecu do you mean the ones from say penny duck or a different chip,

when relacing the ecu do i have to get one with the same numbers or will anyone work presumably would need to get key plip and reciever as well?

Standard ECU out of any early R19 16v (the later ones like yours have the immobiliser, not sure when the cut off point was)
Then it's just a case of unplug, plug in.

so will i just need the ecu. does any one have a spare ecu with no immobiliser that i can have/buy

so a thort when i removed the engine i had a couple of wires a blue and black which were spliced into the loom going to the fuse box in the engine bay are these part of the imobiliser to do with the fuel pump if so would the pump still prime

If you change the ecu with the immob on it which you appear to have, you will also need the IR receiver and matching key fob for your central locking to work.

I found (with Neal's help kinda) that if you put an immob ecu into a car that has the other type of immob system, the car simply wont start!
I would recomend you replace like with like, so if u have the immob ecu, replace it with another (match the numbers on the ecu case)

The key slot you found is the immob arm/disarm, you may even find another one in the glove box but it should have one or the other (my old L reg 19 16V had the two though)

also, ensure the battery is disconnected during ecu swap overs to prevent electricity spikes damaging it and also make sure the battery is fully charged!
Reset the ecu after reconnection of the battery by using your key fob, plip the doors locked and unlocked (make sure all doors, bonnet and boot is closed when you do this)

ok cool cheers guys.
nope got no lock in the glove box, gonna follow the wires back to in the cabin and have a look and see if i can remove it which should just leave the built in alarm immobiliser in the ecu dont have a key for it any way so is of no use to me.

thanks for the ecu info wicked neo. you got any word on the head

tried another ecu with same with same numbers and no change.

just cranks over has good spark but no fuel, fuel pump primes thow

need more help please
