Hi there! My name's George, I'm from Greece, and I own a five-door '83 TL (first hand, it belongs to my mother). I've been legally driving it since '05 (that is, when I got my licence). Currently I also drive a stock Honda Civic VTi (Engine code B16a2; I'm not sure, but I think it's badged as an Si or SiR in the UK- correct me if I'm wrong). Anyways, for years, I've been thinking of modifying my car into an Alpine Turbo (engine+steering+brakes+rear axle+etc). I bought 4 "turbine-look" rims, an Alpine Turbo steering wheel and a pair of Alpine bucket seats for better looks! I was this close to purchasing an EBS GT-Turbo a few years ago; the EBS may be a rare car, but my mechanic inspected the car, and there seemed to be a previous accident beforehand, along with major engine problems, and ...you just can't risk it - especially for a E7,000 -priced car...
Fortunately, my car is rust-free and it's in good condition (apart from the fact that it's got some minor bumps here and there, but eventually there's going to be a paintjob too) and I'm pretty sure this is also positive in modifying the car.
BUT, due to the fact that a Honda engine (this is why I referred to the Civic before) can resist to alot of "violence", I've been "spoiled" by the B16's resistance, and I need to know if the 122B engine has also relatively good quality... Are the stock pistons and rods actually forged, or should I search for stronger "intestines"? Could the stock engine withstand an increase in the turbo pressure and show a sustainable performance increase? (I'm not talking about an output of 200bhp, but an increase of, say, +/-20bhp which will not have any negative side effects to its overall long-term performance and reliability). Is it preferable to get a turbocharger off a GT-Turbo (any other makes that match the 5's?)?
Thank you for any of your advice!
Cheers,
