21 Turbo Renault 25 v6 turbo

Hi,

I hope it was ok to add the r21 prefix? There is none for this beast.

As I have covid, I have heaps of time to post irrelevant stuff on the internet. Looks like it's time to present my R25 v6 turbo. Seems like the only one on here. I have had it for nearly 20 years.

It's a 1991, so the last of the run, with all the goodies like...
- the 16inch turbo BBS wheels from factory
- the 2.5 v6 turbo prv. A post 1990 version of the engine, gaining 20 HP and a cat. 205 hp.
- air con, memory seats, soft-close boot, decent original stereo.
- Extras are Koni shocks all around, 2 cm lowered at the front. Original car phone.

It's a fine Autobahn cruiser 😀
I bought it in Berlin from very elderly owners. The car is not perfect but is hardly run in at 80.000 km.

Not many left at all because you could upgrade your alpine cheaply with the engine.

Hi,
Well, I like that the car is well-liked on here...

Yes, these BBS rm024 wheels were standard for the phase 3 / from April 1990. Since they were discovered by the VW boys, they are now a lot more valuable than what I originally paid for the entire car.

This was a 60.000 German marks car which equates to nearly the same amount of todays money / euros.

Didn't the R21 also gain Electronic boost control and a cat in 1990? I think those were spin-offs from the develoment of the a610

:)
The xr25 would not switch on. So out with clip. Neither did that work. I found there was no 12v in the socket of the car.
By that time I had can clip running. It surprises me how it can look so completely different when connected to a 1999 espace, a 2005 laguna or different again with the R25

I really know nothing about how to work the xr25 and was about to sell it. However, for the memory seats and variable rate power steering, it could come in handy. Can clip only speaks to the engine ecu...

My uncle had a renault workshop. I should ask him before that knowledge is lost.

Hi,
As I said the car us not perfect. It behaves as typical renaults do, always starts and stops.
E- Windows are temperamental but I have had the circuit bord in the driver's door resoldered which should fix it. The car now locks all doors with the fob since I replaced the motors with laguna 1 parts. Non leather doors cards bend due to heat. That is why baccara ones are installed.

Now a lot of parts are offered by the French club. I have a new radiator and will probably install it with a new hose set next summer.

The air con has no gas in it but holds pressure. Anyone has experience with an r134a conversion?

Biggest niggle are the rubber bits holding the steering box. They allow it to move which gives you a very vague steering. A friend and Espace specialist has offered to tackle that job and replace the clutch at the same time. (It judders when you take off slowly).

He knows the z engines well but I don't think he realizes the extent of the job like having to take off the turbo. But as someone who has chosen to work on espace for living won't give up easily.

I cycle to work and generally a lot. My laguna 170 on lpg does everything I want to. So sometimes I consider selling up.

😉
I am not sure. I don't pay for storage but it is a 100km drive. And I have only done 25000km in 18 years. I think it could make someone really happy.
I bought it for 800 euros nearly 20 years ago. These have finally gained some value, with a new clutch you could probably put it up for sale for 10.000 and see if there is any interest.

Hi,
Well you had the Eagle Premier, similar im size but under the skin more of a r21 with the 3l PRV mated to a zf autobox. Doesn't sound bad but those cars did not have the best reputation, did they? I don't remember if the problems were technical or dealerships incompetent?
Most would have bought a Renault 25 automatic and those AR4 gearboxes were shite. 😀

You can buy mine and Import it 😀

Hi,
The space ship is back on the road. Very relaxed and quiet on the Autobahn. A lot of niggles could be addressed but it always starts and stops.
The new Radiator is in the boot and will stay there as the original one has stopped leaking. Seeing my dad in hospital just seems more important now.

The French Forum offers new repro fuel and coolant hoses which had not been available for years. Would you get a set to replace the original 33 year old ones?

It’s not the brown one that used to be owned by a very pleasant disabled chap?
You mean Andy Mitchell, proper old school shirt and tie gent, sadly passed, he had a 30TX V6 and a 20TX.
Lovely bloke , think he had MS or something similar, always got stuck in, lived life to the full, no internet, no email, nothing, you just got his card with a phone number and an address.....
