5 GT Turbo Raider refresh...

Hello,
This thread will have some pictures of progress of my Raider revival.
I have had the car quite a few years now but progress has been really slow due to small family and illness.
So the car has a B18ft conversion fundamentally pretty sound for an old car the inner and outer sills were done (with a little help from my friends!) last year and a full underseal done. I will try and add some photographs of the sills when I dig the photos out.
Anyway the car was looking a bit sorry for itself with various coloured bits bolted on so I have taken the plunge to paint the old girl.

I have seen a few dodgy paint jobs but never one quite like this ...
I started off with 320 grit sand paper, then 240, then 180, then 60......
Finally resorting to a trimming knife blade20170923_110801.webp 20170923_111922.webp 20170923_112602.webp 20170923_115303.webp 20170923_134503.webp

There was just so many layers of paint on the car of various different types that it has taken a very long time to get to a stage where I could paint it. Just when I though it was somewhere near I found more layers of paint.Weird.20170824_201025.webp

wow, this will be some serious work to get it back to its former glory but good luck. Are you planning to keep the volvo lump in there or swap back to a c1j ?

I'm keeping the B18ft for now I like the efi after crab freeze and jetting issues etc.
The paintwork is more a question of the type of paint rather than the amount I think. It wasn't normal car paint that was on it!

Management system is standard other than Scoff bypass. I have quite a few upgrades for the engine (bigger intercooler and turbo, injectors etc) but not at that stage yet.

Great work, donor front screen surround lòoks very familiar to my one lol

Did you cut out and patch / fill from donar or repalce the ful screen surround?

On the fence atm on which option is best :be:
Just patchs cut out of the donor panel Dunc
as the windscreen surround was not that bad. You can drill the spot welds out of the whole screen and replace the lot if its too bad. Do you have a spot weld drill bit? If not it is worth getting one.
I had a mate do that bit. He's a much better welder than me!

Yes have spot weld drill bit set ;)
Hope to have the rest of the car stripped this weekend and can remove the screen to find true scale of the rust, initial pics in my 11 years later thread

Cheers
DG
