Alpine R8 GT Turbo Too?

Time for an update. I've decided to use the spare C3J motor I have for my turbo build. The hardest part to find is the carb. I haven't been able to find a GTT specific Solex 32dis ... until yesterday when I saw @Duncan Grier's advert. If that doesn't pan out I plan to try using the TBI throttle body from a US spec 1.4 Alliance (R9). I'll have to go with megasquirt for fuel mapping, which could be a chore. The carb is a much simpler solution.

I can't find a Garrett T2 compressor for my build. They are just too old and rare. So I've been looking for an available alternative. The best I've found is a Garrett MGT1238 which was original equipment on 2015ish Dodge Dart, Fiat 500 and Jeep Compass. The specs are close to what I've been able to find for the original T2.

T2: compressor, A/R=.48, trim=45 turbine, A/R=.35, trim=56
MGT1238: compressor, A/R=.46, trim=60 turbine, A/R=.40, trim=83

Here is a compressor map for the MGT1238

I'm aiming for around 120 hp (Steve Swan says the clutch can't take much more than that). I should be able to get 120 (12 lbs/min) at a pressure ratio of 1.6-1.8 (9-12 psi of boost) and be in a good spot on the map. MGT1238s are readily available on the used marked here in the states for a few hundred USD.

Any thoughts before I buy one and start fabbing an exhaust manifold?

Look at the garrett club line gbc range

Failing that look at the mitsubishi td04 turbos, cheap and plentiful

I have a box full of stock gtt t2 turbos all needing rebuilds/in various states in my garage if needs be. On the other hand rebuild wise, get a pro to do it as it will need balancing once its been apart.

Thanks @Brigsy. @Big Steve - Raider said he could send me pictures of a used turbo he had. But if you have one I'm interested. I've never rebuilt a turbo, so would replacing the bearings require a re-balance? How about if I replace the rotating assembly (CHRA?) as a unit? I have found a new replacement CHRA and turbine housing for sale in the UK. What do you think?

MAny thanks for the pix @Big Steve - Raider. The compressor housing looks good. It's the only part I can't find on the web. The rest looks rebuildable to to me (a novice)!. So, how much do you want for the turbo?

You can replace the chra with no balancing, as you wont be messing about with the rotating, parts and just changing the covers.

if you strip/rebuild an old core yourself it will need a rebalance so it lasts.
