IMO it looks like qs have rushed the polishing to get the late jobs out. Sure, it's not going to ruin in sound effects...

...but personally,I'm going to be damn annoyed if I don't get a finish like Ant's.

Yeah was thinking the same TBH, especially after we,ve had to wait at least another week for them to polish them.

The build quality looks good but as these are individually made it dosent mean there all gonna look the same.

I hope to get mine 2mo, starting to get excited, cant wait :happyjump:

Agreed....maybe Peter should bring this up with QS. Don't want any corners cut....
That finish wouldn't look that hot if the centre bumper section was cut out...

not been following the thread lately and cant be bothered to go through all the pages again, but i should be getting mine fitted sat, do i need to buy anything like clamps etc?? think someone said a few things might be worn out??

Clamps may need to be replaced as they can corrode. Or they may require new bolts in them. Oh and a spare rubber exhaust mount is a good idea just incase.

i can see the normal one being a nicer "tune" than the OMG version,

Will the OMG not just give the sound of taking the backbox off? meaning the purpose of the backbox is simply for looks?

also..what happens to back pressure?

^^^ just what I was about to say next. Have I just spent over £500 on essentially extending two bits of pipe?

Colin, I don't think back-pressure will be affected since the cats are still in.

...and they get louder with use. I reckon mine is a lot louder now than it was when Scotty fitted it. When I 'drove' through south London tonight I don't think one person failed to look around to see waht the racket was. :D

Can't say I'm overly impressed with the quality of those welds, just looks a bit rough and ready. I was looking at a mates evo last night with a new zorst he has just fitted. It was about £350 for the whole system from the cat back and the quality was amazing, does make me wonder why we have to pay stupid money just for a back box??

The price of exclusivity I suppose, or just being shafted over??

thousands of evos were made last year but only 350 v6 clios made in the last 2 years hence theres loads of evos to sell after market exhausts hence brings cost down

The pic of the last weld is very close-up which probably doesn't do it any favours. As mentioned, mine will hang behind the plastic bumper so it's not a show piece like my last one was on the mk1....which incidently was a Pro-Speed and was custom-made cheaper than the Quicksilver (even with the group buy). The Pro-speed was excellent, although a bit too quiet still - but that was my fault since I wanted something I could use daily.

If I get any problems I'll have no hesitation in asking QS to fix the problem, but I'm not going to get (too) upset and moany before I've even put it on ;)

If backpressure was a requirement for bhp why do top fuel dragsters and bikes - the fastest stuff about - run straight through pipes?
Anyone got any calcs/evidence or is it an old wives tale or does it depend on camduration and timing.

where are you Ben

Mike

The design of exhaust sytems is extremly complex and the calculations even more so.

I think David Vizard covered a lot of this in his various books specific the various engines.

I did have a book on the subject but seem to have thrown it out now.

Any pipe lenghth has a pressure drop, in engines you get the inter action of each of the cylinders when they exit from engine into the exhaust system.

As a start off have a look here :-

http://www.jodel.com/index.asp?p=exhaust&engines

Backpressure affects the characteristics of the engine across the rev range. It does not directly give more or less power. But it can make the car run better at different rpm, and with different throttle openings.

Ultimately for max power low back pressure is good. Think race engines. These run at high rpm to get high power. But low down torque is often not as good. BUT that is not a concern as they are always run at high rpm. Road cars are a compromise between emisions, economy, noise, low to mid range torque and power at mid range RPMs. The Vee also looks to get decent power at high(ish) revs as it is a "sporty" model. It is all quite complex.

Also remember with the same manifolds, cats, downpipes, and collector box the back pressure will not be so very different irrespective of the back box design.

IMO a custom remap is a good idea when you make significant changes to the induction / exhaust to make best use of the changes you have made as the car is no longer as designed. There is no point having the capability of getting more air into the engine and gasses out if you don't also add the optimum fuel mix as well. Plus sod the emissions and economy just give me power and torque!

Peter :D

Anyway please post up when you have recieved your back boxes.

Lets wait tillwe get some of these beasties on a RR!

Thanks
Peter :D
