Old picture of seat covers

For newer members - a believe this picture was from a few years ago for an online auction.

The firm listed to provide the ID interior finishes must have gone into receivership. This begs the question - did Renault pull the plug on ID interiors causing their demise or did their downfall lead to the option being withdrawn.

Another mystery for Duncan to solve...

Which set would you have in your Vee?

FAO Duncan - I think you could have the basis of a quality book with all the data you've accumulated!

Have you ever read Paul Frere's Porsche 911 Story?
It's a good yardstick.

Put me down for a hard-back signed copy when you've published.
: )

Just for the records, the leather was for sale in May 2011. Original thread here

Funny you mention doing a book. It was the project I am thinking of looking into once I have completed the chassis number hunt. Needs a bit of thought first!

I saw on facebook that a French chap who recently produced a book on the RS Meganes is in the middle of making a book about the Clio V6, with info from TWR employees. Should be interesting.

You can get his Megane book: here

As with Avantime, Renault would have been delighted having spent time and money designing and developing the option, getting brochures printed, doing Press releases and photos and ordering Press cars...ahem...if it had continued to be available as planned. Unfortunately the company chosen to produce it went bust after about 6 months. Based near Monaco if I remember correctly.

Mention of 'Monaco' made me think about those editions of the R5 and Clio - perhaps the same firm?

Great little cars. The 5 Monaco had power steering on an '80s supermini when most Sierra Cavalier sized cars only had it as an option! The Clio became the Baccara for some reason. I don't think there was a Monaco version. The Clio was a 1.8 with air con leather power steering and automatic. Was a proper little luxury car. Howmanyleft shows 1 licence and 5 SORN. Was Monaco seen as too shady in the 90s? I seem to remember Prince Rainier making steps to get rid of some of the more obvious crims ;)
Now it only plays host to the cleverer ones like Philip Green who take the money and run.

I'd love to see a decent book on the Vees as well. I would raise their profile among the more general car enthusiasts, the media and owners alike.
The I.D. covers look like they were hand stiched leather items, in which case they would be very easy to get replicated. I would imagine that the original covers would be the difficult ones to find replicate in the future due to the base material being non-standard and eventually unavailable, if it isn't already.

Duncan, a book would be a great project indeed, and think you are best placed to take it on given all the research done and knowledge accumulated over the years. :approve:

Should be an excellent companion book to he Clio V6 Story.

Some upholstery was retro fitted in a liquid yellow from Switzerland which was later sold to France. We did not buy the ligth grey which would be hard to sell or use. I think this is still in storage in France. We also have some left.

Mk1 5TX from 82/83 has power steering, caught me out every time I got into it! So light that it was all over the road, still sat in the barn rusting merrily away!

I wandered what happened to all this leather when it appeared a few years back! Great to see it could still possibly be made available to members.. :salut: [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]
