Not sellin'!

There are virtually 'no' Vees listed on PH at the moment.

I've got a theory that rare iconic cars should never dip below 50% of their original list price.

My conspiracy theory is that there would be loads more Vees listed if the prices weren't appalling.

I've also noted that there are very few savvy dealers working the 'rare Renaultsport' market.

Kett, I think you are spot on, especially with regards to dealers - those that deal with Vees don't really come across as credible sellers of (modern) classics. However, the fact that a few Vees have recently ended up in auctions alongside other (modern) classics bodes well for future values. Now we need dealers in proper classics to get Vees on their books.

As I have said before, one would need to give it at least 5-6 years to see any significant uptick in prices, so best strategy may well be to hold on to what you have. IMO wIth the wider economy where it is, there will not be much in the way of spending on a car for the fun of it, to use (or abuse) and pass on in a few months. Savvy buyers will certainly look at likely future values - auctions are a key barometer for these types of buyers. The issue I believe is that the Vee is not "old" enough to be considered a classic (just yet) in the truest sense of the word. The other reason I believe is the "boy racer" image that goes with it, as it does with any hatchback.

However, if one is looking to buy then now is the time to get one.......

titanium seems to be bottom of the pecking order on the forum, but after owning 2 illiad ones previously I had to go for another colour,
when my car came up it was not my preferred colour but price , mileage and condition made my mind up, I LOVE IT, !!!
would I sell ? with 7000 miles in top condition , and the number plate V6 UFO included, yes I would , but would have to be £20000 for the car and quite a bit for the plate,
so i'll be keeping it for years hopefully,

No chance. I have had the craziest adventures in my vee you cant put a price on it. Probably because I have used to its max and done about 42k the stories within those 42k would take days and days to tell. It is a part of me in a strange way and with my personalised plate on it I cant sell it. I have used the vee to go from a total novice driver to a tracks day without brakes!! All learnt in the vee.

Now if I had a second mint vee I would plump it on at 20k if I had no need to sell. If desparate 15k. Still less than euro prices but that should be the bottom of the market for both phases. Ph1 are the original version hence that should add huge value to it. Ph2 same price for the little extras they come with. Ph1 prices are stupidly cheap and if people who sold them valued their rareity, originality etc then prices would rise. The cars are handmade that should command a premium as well. Hopefully the owners we have now do raise the prices when selling. If it is sold as said before thru the forum even better. Lack of supply will put the owners in control of prices. Good examples will be hard to find for sale. Those with 'dodgy' history if corrected and brought up to mint condition will again raise prices.
This summer will be an interesting watch on prices. Maybe the turning point on values is nearing.
Good old (lack of) supply and demand :)

Interesting point about this summer perhaps being a turning point for prices. I bought my Iliad in 2005 because it was the right car at the right price - £18K with 6,000 miles. Still makes me smile ! Don't think the dealer knew what he had as equivalent cars were hitting £20K down south. I reasoned then that it should be as deflation proof as any car I could buy for that money and I think I was correct. Deffo NOT SELLING but do think that good examples should start to climb back up from £12 to the £15K level. Think this will be helped by the Vee's growing cult status in mags like EVO.

Think we're a good few years away yet from any sort of meaningful price rise. Noticed that the market has already risen from when I bought in though, so it is (very) slowly moving in the right direction.

As far as minimum sales price goes, and I know Ive said it before, but values aren't something I've ever taken any notice of. If it rises it rises, if it falls it falls. It's the actual ownership bit that I love. If my plastic coated, project Frankenstein ends up being worth less than an OEM ph1 then so be it. I still wouldn't have it any other way. I was going to do a 'thinking of selling' thread... but thought I might just chip into this.

I LOVE my V - but as I stated very clearly 12 months ago - I have never kept a car longer than 12 months... my theory is there are too many cars I want to try before I die to settle on just one for long.

My budget doesn't cover the bike, scooter and two cars... so its a straight car- car swap...

The massive however is that the V was my first 'dream car', and I cant afford the next dream car yet...
Second that with the thousands I have spent on it in the last 12 months.... at the moment nothing needs doing to it... and I would want a very reasonable price for it - 15k+

Its got 37k - but this year its had - deep breath...
- new gearbox with remaining warranty on the box
- new clutch, flywheel and differential
- four new tyres
- new disks (the expensive ones) and pads on rear
- front bumper strip down, filled and re-sprayed (bodywork unmarked now)
- service at scotts
- replaced the mofset heater resistor for the heater fan.
- all four wheels expensively acid dipped - tig welded - and re-coated (they are totally mark-less)
- Clear engine cover
- New ignition coils
- (all my OCD attention on waxing and conditioning inside and out)

So there it sits - in my garage in birmingham on a drip feeder - I have forgotten what its like to drive it and start just looking at plain numbers and the classifieds....

Ahhh its soo difficult...
Nutty

Very good point about prices and actual ownership. It only is a concern when selling. I bought mine on the assumption the money spent I never expect to see again as I never intended to ever sell it. I tend to buy most things on that assumption that way everything is budgeted for and any returns are a bonus.

Good thread though and interesting views.
