For Sale Renault 21 Turbo - Tungsten Grey - F860 TAD

You may have seen this car for sale on ebay over the last month or 2 and I have heard its been spoke about on some forums off various potential buyers, I can't find anything so I don't know what's been spoke about or where ( maybe facebook but I am not on so wouldn't no ) but I will put you all in the picture with what's happened. Car was being sold on my behalf by a good friend with garage premises as I don't have time due to work commitments.
First time out my friend had a bloke send that many messages back and forth to him about the car and his old cars etc etc we thought the sale was done and dusted he bid £8.5k a number of times before going to look at DaveL's red 21 he is currently working his magic on. After seeing the car he came back with a £7500 bid ( which would have bought the car ) but the way it was done got my friends back up a bit and he just told him NO.
Second time out, a mechanic came with his wife he bid £8k for it and test drove the car and loved it but the rear brake pads were rattling in the callipers and did sound terrible but it was a simple fix and done the next day, My friend called him back to tell him it was fixed and he said he wanted the car but was busy and would call back, the next day no call so we called him he was still busy ( I knew he was a messer then ) we called him a couple more times after that then he said his Wife wouldn't let him buy it 😂😂
Next couple of listings it didn't make the reserve which I agree I set to high.
Then a local guy came for a look and drove the car ( and this car does drive well and is quick ) he loved it and in his words " This is a bit of me " he left and said he would come back next day with some cash and buy the car. The next day we rang him and he said he wasn't interested ( I honestly can't understand people )
Last time out someone rang and we asked him for a bid on the car and he said he didn't know how much it was worth as there weren't any more about for sale but gauged a bid on a red one that was on for £6K not to long ago and after a bit of chat he came up with a £7800 bid agreed - buyer to collect with in a couple of days - again Buyer disappeared

Can I just say that being messed about with this car is an understatement.

I am not sure if what has been spoke about this car on forums but maybe it is putting people off this car I just don't know.

Car was recommissioned tremendously by DaveL ( no one better could do it )

I bought this car because it was very good body wise in a rust sense. Far too good to let it sit. It definitely deserved the TLC it got here, and drove fantastic when it left me (and I expect its just as good now). It was looking its age on the condition of the paint, which looks to have been sorted (looks fab in the pics after being painted!). If anyone is looking for a decent example, this is probably one of the best you will see for a while given the work its had.

My recomission and rebuild thread is here for anyone interested

Jon - I havent seen any negative commentary around the car itself, only a few people specualting that the reserve was quite high at the time.

Is 8 grand a lot of money for the car? Its certainly strong but fair in my opinion...consider the work its had and the hours gone into it - at normal garage rates the time I put into this car myself would have been £3500 on its own, without any parts. You wouldnt be able to buy a car like this, with that little rust, and make it this good for anywhere near the price tag. Absolutely no way.

Thanks for the reply Dave, I agree the reserve was high on the first few listings just a case of testing the water a little - just how does anyone try to put a value on this - an F plate sapphire cosworth would be £25-£30k and I know what I would rather have a 21 Turbo for £8k - quicker and nicer to drive - I know the work and hours you put into the car and that’s part of the reason it’s worth the money it is. After the paintwork and other bits I am just breaking even myself on the car - I would love to keep it but just no space and I won’t leave it outside - some one will get a good car for the money

Did you sell in the end?

Im amazed at the transformation, last time i saw the car was an ebay ad in enfield, seller was giving it the 'give me money or il break it for the box' spiel.

I thought this car was gone years ago!

I should write back to add some context in that i owned this car several years ago, you are right its a good car, took me to Berlin and back. If i wasnt trying to stack cash to buy a house... id be knocking your door.

Im just glad she is still alive and well 🙂

Thanks for that - it’s always good to hear from old owners of cars and yes she is still alive and well and just looking for a good home as it’s not getting the use it should be

Did you sell it to a gent called Cliff? If so, I bought it from him in early '22 :)

No, I sold the car to a guy down in new forest area, I cant remember the name but I think you will know who, dealt in 21Ts and spares.

This would have been around a decade ago.

Sadly my folks didnt have space to keep multiple old cars, gear linkage was shot and the rear main was leaking when i moved it on... wish i never did but at the time needs must.

I bought it from a guy in essex, chelmsford way, probably shouldnt have but I missed a really good ph2 in tungsten in the west london area couple months prior and that clouded my judgement.

Dave L845, i did read your thread detailing the work that went in, thanks for being complimentary on the sill welding... that was me. The permanently live fan setup.. essex bloke! And also, those sills have had bucketloads of 3M cavity wax in them afterwards.

Who knows, if the stars align maybe I could own TAD again.

Its with a guy called Luke Choak now, he's on the 21 facebook page if anyone wants to DM him.

Although its moved around a few owners since it left me at least its worth enough now to see it looked after, and used.
