my 21 restoration project

Until they hit Kevin the teenager. Lol.

haha

This week ive managed to get the rear of the car stripped. Finding along the way a snapped coilover, corroded copper brake line, rear tank strap is a red ratchet strap and rotten sills!

The sills were largely solid, its just the front and back both side which have started to rot through. So all the affected area's have now been cut out and replacement pieces all cut ready to be welded on. Luckily i had a new sill for a clio valver which had the right shape sort of, just a little bending needed. Now need to learn how to weld lol

Once iv got it all welded up sum time this or next week i will be under sealing all arches and underneath. And when i get hold of the bits i need i will be putting it all back together. Thanks to ollieR for sourcing the suspension, tank strap and brake line needed ;-)

Second hand brake line? Ropey bugger!

If you need any more, lemme know the length and i'll make you one and send it down, costs very little ?. I have a flare and all the associated stuff to make new ones. That goes for anyone else too.

Haha as long as it ain't rotten it will be fine. The one on there has nearly rotten through!! It's the one on the offside rear little half meter run to rear bias valve.

Ta for the pics! Pity its dead though :o( as are most it seems!

Top work on the 21 though. Bet your bank manager loves you!

Correction!!!! I remember it being sold in various bits but it's alive! I posted these pics on the rtoc and gt-turbo spares.co.uk has it and is still in the process of putting back to standard. Good luck.

Had a go at the welding yesterday after having a little practice lol

Let's just say I will be leaving it for the proffesionals!!!

After last weeks welding session today I thought I'd have a good look at the motor and make sure there's nufing left todo befor the welder goes bk to matey. There's no more welding to be done but iv found quite alot of rust dust on the paintwork. The car was mostly covered but still it looks nasty lol. Iv had a go at washing it off but still no joy!! Has anyone else had to clean this crap off???? What did you use ect.....

Cheers, i will try the clay bar 2mora, as for 1200 wet and dry wouldn't it mark the paintwork or make it chalkey???
1200 would cut into the lacquer much like an abrasive polish

I would try clay bar and polish first

I wonder if someone has been using an angle grinder near it

Managed to polish out the rust dust with megirs cleaner wax the other afternoon so that's that little worry over. Next is to underseal the bad boy when I get some time and a half decent day. Slow progress is still progress lol. I blame MW3, work and family commitments haha

This week I'm on holiday leave so I'm hopeing to get the 21 undersealed. Absaloutly no progress is getting to me abit now lol
