megane coupe 1.6 8v gearbox problem *advice please!*

i have the car on the ramp and is a friend of mines. the linkage is all fine but for some reason only 5th will select? the problem occured suddenly he reversed out of a space and the could only select 5th. is there a common cause for this fault? any help asap greatly appreciated.

just incase anyone is interested i have solved the problem. the box was havin a paddy and tried to select first before it had finished coming out of reverse and jammed up. all i had to do was remove the end of the box in situ and reset the reverse detent location. now all is good. problem caused by wear in selector on first and second gear so beware to be careful on high milage cars when coming out of reverse ha ha.

DOH! i did have a look but not hard enough obviously. i thought of taking pics but i was in too much of a hurry to get it out the workshop b4 my boss saw i had it in ha ha.
