Mk1 / Ph1 Mégane Cabriolet F4R-t conversion

6mm steel plate sheared in half? Crikey, have you got any pictures?
I'll get some when it's off.
It's a bit of a shit design on my half. The plate needed quite a big cut out / window to clear a casting web on the block. I should have gusset plated it really but didn't.

So the surface area of the plate is 6mm thick, but across a part of the mount it's only a maybe 2cm wide either side of the window.
One end was gusset plated but the other end wasn't. And that's the end that gave way. 🤣

Fair enough. Makes me more comfortable because I want to use smaller gauge steel for mine haha. I am sure you will soon have it sorted. Put it down to Research and Development..

Okay, my DCi box arrived today. Very clean box, feels healthy, but I'm still keen to open it up and give it a once over / refresh.

My intial plan was to obtain a crunchy / knackered 16 valver box, and loot the bell housing from it, so I can retain a speedo drive. Just save having to fab one up that runs from a reluctor ring.
But after speaking to a gearbox bearing supplier, aparently the kits between early and late JB3 boxes run different sized bearings. Which may well shit on my plan. Can anyone advise?

Upon looking at the DCi box closely, and comparing it to an old JB1 I've got sitting around. The speedo drive housing is all there, minus a hole by the looks of things.
Has anybody ever modified a gearbox to accept one?

I imagine there may be some sort of drive on the diff?

In my head I’d just be swapping the casings and using the speedo gear, I’m sure the provisions would be there to run it on the stronger boxes internals. (the same way the 225 conversion can be done by block swapping the f4r to retain the 5 speed box if that makes sense?)

I think the bearings differ between early and late JB boxes. Which ones I don't know though.

Well I was just stopping by to update with some pictures from today. But I have just noticed that every damn picture is a dead link again. So I wont be bothering! haha!

I restored a 172 flywheel in my lathe. and finished up the upper gearbox mounting to make up 4 engine mounts in total.
Once the weather improves I will be getting the engine/box back out to start swapping it all over to DCi box, and a decent flywheel/clutch combo.

Hello,
i would like to swap my Megane coupé trackcar with F4RT 776 from Scenic.
You projet is quite nice, can you give a little update on your progress?

I would like to put the F4r 776 + ND0 in the Megane shell, does it requires subframe or frame modifications?

Thanks a lot.

It will require a cut out in the left side chassis rail. Subframe doesn't need modification.
