Me and my GTX

Hi all

Been on here ages now but not posted and I hadn't taken my d.test so couldn't drive my lovely car!

Now I have the license and over the past few weeks have got my mot, insurance and tax sorted - now all I need is a money tree to be able to keep my car fueled and all will be well!

He's a thirsty little bugger! Drove him over the weekend for the first time in over 6 months.

It's in great condition and I'm only the second owner, have stacks of paperwork so it was a great buy!

Just need tips for improving fuel efficiency now or it will have to be sold and I'll be after a 1litre metro :)

hi rjayne, welcome to the club, clean / awesome car, Im sure someone here will be able to give you some simple pointers on increasing the economy of your car, again welcome to the club and enjoy the 5

a grand choice of first car my man.

How thirsty is thirsty? Often a right good service and a thorough clean and set up of the carb can reap massive gains in economy and power.

Thanks, I love him too :)

At a rough calculation Ruben's doing about 26mpg.

Will give him a good going over tho I am limited to the knowledge my haynes manual etc will give me as my mechanical skills are 0 :)

oooooooooo if you have a filler flap markyturbo I'll be your best friend, want me or not lol. I've tried to ebay for one but the only one I could find was on Ebay Holland and had an airbrushed elephant on it ;)

Cheers

The last official one was done by a Renault garage at 72 thousand miles (its now 114k), the guy who owned it from new was a mechanic so after then he maintained it himself. It's been neglected lately as I've owned it for 2 years and it's not been driven all that much so it needs some TLC!

My calcs could be wrong of course, I only got it taxed and on the road on Friday arvo, plus I've had my license less than a month so that's probably taking its toll as well

the carb will be pretty gummed up I imagine, get some carb cleaner.

you got a camera by anychance? I mean one you can get some snaps with easily

a man of many flaps I see :D A pearl white one sounds fab but any flap will do! I do have some paint etc as I bought a small wing two summers ago which I sanded down from smurf blue but never got around to fixing on.

Chris H/ Yep I do have a decent camera.

May all be irrelevant as I had a bad evening yesterday. I passed my test in November and have driven maybe 2/3 times in my mums car since and yesterday was the third time I drove mine. So I'm still very much getting used to driving and getting used to driving an older car. Pulled out of my road, late at night so roads were deserted, get to the first corner and some :wanker: with fog lights ablaze pulls up behind me and is nearly touching my ass, I was doing speedlimit+and yet the :wanker: still honks at me as I turn off.

Then the car cut out as I was driving but it started itself again, then I got to a junction and it stalled and wouldn't start. So there I am, single white female (was gonna say young as well but that would be a little misleading;) ) in the middle of nowhere stalled at a junction. Luckily after 3 or 4 minutes I'd started it and was off and away again. By the time I'd got back into civilization I'd convinced myself passing my test was fluke and that I should sell my car or trade it in for a donkey or something, so I had a snivel in tesco's car park before heading home.

So girly and so unlike me but I just don't like not being brilliant at something straight away so I guess I'm a :wanker: too!

Still, it's answered one question for me.... to use "p" plates or not to? Well I was worried that it would make other drivers do stupid things around me like they do when you have "l" plates on but it's happening anyway so on they go as they can't make things worse.

Or maybe it's my car, cos it's 5 door and the 1.7 badge is quite small maybe people think I'm a pensioner. :?

I don't think I like it  I'd be ok if it was legal to fit rocket launchers to your car, take out some :wanker: and make the world a better place,
never mind girl power - can I hear a hallelujah :renault: power :)

but seriously, I'm not against racers - I can't be as most of my mates are, but there's being a racer and being a :wanker: - two completely different things!

as TIB said get out there and get some driving done.

Sadly theres arseholes everywhere and they wil act like idiots when you do drive at the limit and stop at junctions and so on. As you gain confidence they won't bother you anymore.

As for the stalling as its a carbed car and the weather is rather chilly it may be carb icing. Is the engine standard or does it have an induction kit or something fitted?

Get a pic if you can.

easy drop it in to third and go GO!! the GTX defo doesnt hang around!! i remember when we had a silver one and the plate ended in POC so was called pocket lol
