Marks RX7 - lets break a rotary.

Not too much to report other than I did some more testing over the weekend which resulted in me losing 80% of the coolant following a 9900rpm 3rd gear pull.

Here is a picture in its natural habitat.

Luckily I didn’t fry the engine though I have a feeling it was close.

This is a 14 psi pull dropping to 9psi and throttle closing to 30% passed 9000rm. That has been removed for next set of testing.

Technically the run was invalid due to the slope but corrected we get a 6s 100-200kph.

Here’s a list for a comparison.

Next step, one final test of water meth system to check for leaks and flow. Then add the methanol/water mix and wind up the boost. I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like at double the boost but we should be in the 4s region 100-200kph.

Going to be insane if you get into the 4's 💪

Shame on the coolant leak but glad no lasting damage.....did you work out what had failed?

How did the syvecs react with coolant issue, able to give good warning?

Yes like a fool I didn’t do up a water port correctly and at high rpm it blew the blocking plug off. I lost almost 6 litres of coolant.

Yes Syvecs threw up all sorts of safety warnings. Coolant pressure, over heating etc and under that scenario whilst engine is running hot whilst I look for somewhere safe to pull over the ECU adds extra fuel to keep engine cool.

To be fair, for the money that Syvecs stuff costs, I would have expected it to produce water and auto refill the system as you were trying to find somewhere to pull over 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

All is well @andybond !

I’ve had a little issue with the Turbosmart oil regulator being a pile of shit. It’s supposed to regulate at 40psi but in true Mark Davis fashion it’s only be regulating to 20 psi.

I’ve complained to Turbosmart and I have a refund on the way. I’ve removed the device and just replaced with a straight line to turbo without reg or restrictor and all seems to be fine.

My next issue has been intermittent issue with lambda sensor reading. One minute it reads fine, next minute it fails. We’ve now moved over to lambda 2 on the loom, will need to test that today.

Final thing is we can’t get the flow that we need from water meth system, we believe due to using tap water it has furred up the system so I’ll be getting to work with the limescale remover with the manifold, jets and lines. I now have a healthy stash of distilled water.

if dry I’ll take the car out today for a run and Im sure something else will fail 😂

@Mark Davis . Just a thought. Losing coolant quickly is always dodgy as the temp sender goes dry and does not read correctly (always low). Can you fit a low water level switch in the exp tank that would put the motor into limp mode if the level dropped, just a thought as you can program your system.
Bad news on the dodgy parts Saga...
If you live in a hard water area scale can build up quickly, if the water temp goes over 60 degrees the dissolved calcium carbonate in the water turns to calcium bicarbonate (scale)

Been over to Matt at Level Motorsport Wiring today for a bit of trouble shooting relating to the 02 sensor and to change how the lambda sensor itself is powered.

It looks like we’ve solved that issue which in part was due to rolling back a firmware version on the ECU. But as you know with me, nothing ever works out as it should as I’m cursed by Satan himself.

I was literally about to drive away when we spotted that the brand new less than 50 miles old turbo oil feed pipe has failed at the turbo end, good job we caught it before I drove the 50 miles home, no doubt the car would of gone up in a blaze of glory.

The annoying part is that it’s brand new from Hosetecnik which as far as I can tell is part of Forge Motorsport, im sure they will sort it but it has meant the car has to stay in Wales whilst I go and get this resolved on Tuesday as they are now closed. To make matters worse it’s absolutely glorious today, 17c and sunny. 😢
