Marks RX7 - lets break a rotary.

A few more jobs sorted today and one or two small hurdles.

First up the catch can arrived from Tom along with lines and fittings for boost controllers. Radium stuff is awesome and will hopefully have this mounted over the weekend.

Fitted the centre console with a small bit of hacksawing underneath. I’m pretty happy with how the cockpit is turning out. Less clutter than a million gauges and yet still very functional.

I started about doing the MAC valves lines but unfortunately one of the MAC valves is broken so had to order new and Tom accidentally sent the incorrect fittings but correct ones in the post.

So decided to fit the water/meth lines as I have some time booked with the tuner Monday to start testing all systems. Not to everyone’s taste (especially the OE brigade) I know but to me the looks cool as fuck.

The two spare ports will run to the boost hose between intercooler and throttle body.

Amended leads are on their way too so hopefully that’s all sorted too.

Looking really tidy and you must be getting excited.....we all are 😉

I have urges to see a nice clamp/brace off inlet to secure those water/meth lines.....be worried about them rubbing on bonnet or getting stressed with your 1000bhp 9000rpm launches 😎

Although maybe they are fine and should keep my nose out 😆 lol
There is plenty of clearance between the lines and the bonnet but you make a fair point.

Will take a look at it when I get more time.

🤞you have solid engine mounts. It might just be the pictures, but the pipes look tight on the inlet side 👍

Alright Rob Dahm, simmer a bit!

How durable are the water meth pipes? With the heat will they become brittle? Genuine question - no idea...

Never fear folks, plenty of bonnet clearance due to the shape of the bonnet and how it closes.

Yes, also solid engine mounts.

Those hoses oddly are rated quite highly for heat. I didn’t believe it myself but part of the reasoning behind the Thermomet heat shielding is because of how these lines would be set up and also bear in mind the Thermomet stuff is proven to reduce temps up to 80% which with a rotary will be noticeable. Also the lines sit directly below 3 big bonnet vents.

The amended leads turned up yesterday and fit well so happy with that.

I’ve completed 75% of the boost control set up. The tuner uses two MAC valves to control top and bottom of gate but unfortunately one of my MAC valves is broken so a new one is on order.

This is how they are set up - need to add a few bungs to boost hose for the MAC valves to fit to.

Finally as I’m going to be running a 90% mix of meth I bought some decent measuring beakers. It’s an 8.2 litre tank to better to have some decent containers etc for filling, testing and emptying.

2 mac valves for one wastegate - not seen that before. Surely you want a direct boost line to the underside of the diaphragm (to open the gate), then one mac valve feeding pressure to the top of the gate with the duty cycle regulating the pressure to control the gate opening. Adding a second mac valve seems unnecessary? Does it speed up reaction time or something?
