5 GT Turbo Low mileage, 1 previous owner, pearl PH1

So yesterday I collected the 5, drove home with no issues, the mot was cancelled and moved to later this week, but I have no concerns with it passing, the car drove better than my mini and was so quiet.

The wife was abit emotional to let it go, said it was strange to see somebody else behind the wheel as only her husband and the mechanics had ever driven it.

Atm it’s on my drive in the carcoon until it’s passed the mot and my friend has had a good look over the car and let’s me know if anything is needed. (Think a cv joint is on the way out and tyres are due a change)... nothing major though :)

I popped into my local Renault dealership, I know the Service counter and parts department very well, have booked the 5 in for its MOT next Thursday, showed them a few pictures and they said they will give the car to the old boy who does the mots as he will appreciate the car better.

They were amazed from looking at the pictures and said they can’t wait to see it in the flesh :).

Also sent in my paperwork to the insurance company to get the ball rolling on agreed value, I have asked for £25k cover, as a couple of other 5’a have the same cover..

The log book has today, officially listed as 1 previous owner :(.

The car is still at my house in the carcoon at least until the MOT and had a full clean, also has a cover under the carcoon, the carcoon has been perfect, no leaks, nice and dry inside, worth the pennies.

I did take it out of the coon today, cleaned the wing mirrors with a magic sponge, removed some of the various fly/insect stains, however there is a stubborn mark on the trim above the lights, will look at that at a later date.

Also anybody know if the mirrors are painted or dyed? As my passenger side appears to be painted and has a slight crack in the paint.

No real update atm, except for it passed its MOT last week. Failed first of all on Perished wiper blades, however Renault Ashford did not have in stock, Eurocarparts had the wrong type... apparently a slight change on the wiper arm after 02/1987 meaning the wiper blades showing do not fit.... most annoying, however for MOT purposes I changed the blades with the 1 Halford blades... not what I wanted to do but got it through the MOT and binds me time to sort out some wiper blades... suggestions please.

I am hoping for a spare day this Thursday to give the car a clean, a quick polish and a layer of wax, nothing to major just enough to protect the paintwork until I get a long weekend to get it really clean and protected.

However I did notice a very minor scuff on the front bumper... must have overlooked that in the photo's and in person, is very minor but annoying non the less, but chances of me finding a mint pearl ph1 bumper I will have to live with it.

As for the side stickers, they will be coming off at some point as the have shrunk with ages, and cracked in places, however I have been to a graphic guy near me who has measured them and can make duplicates in needed (bloody expensive however), I gave him £50 to measure them, design them on screen ready for me to print if need. I see on Facebook a company make replica PH1 side graphics should mine get damaged, but I dont think they will... fingers crossed. If the paint work is OK under the side stickers I may leave it with out (Even though they have been on the car since new, they car has been in a garage under cover so hoping not much paint fade, I am undecided, all I know is when removing I will get them very warm and go slow, using various chemicals at my disposal..

It does not suprise me when i see euro car parts dont have wipers in stock, they are pretty useless iny experience. Should be able to pick up a pair of valeo wipers easy enough

Why not just leave it as is apart from necessary maintenance?
The stickers are part of the cars history and originality and it would be a travisty to remove because of a few cracks and shrinkage.
Look at mattys rowan it has battle scars and peeling stickers but thats what makes it so unique and valuable because its untouched.

Tough call as to what is best as per last 2 notes. Personally I would prefer without but based on keeper for life v certainly more provence with and once removed even putting replacement copies on not the same

Yes it is a tough one, part of me hates the stickers, other part of me likes them, adds to the love of the car... I am in not rush, it can’t wait until i have decided for sure what I want from it.

All I know is the car will be in my ownership for a long time, the love is strong for it :).
