Twingo John's £150 Twingo Extreme Trackday Project

IMG_20220216_210059_050.jpg

Got plenty of footage and of course no timing on trackdays but some fairies told me that I did a 2: 34.83 lap when my previous effort was a 2:50.02 last September.

Lots and lots of footage taken and will have full videos up in due course.

Some quick grabs from the many hours of footage I have to sift through to make a proper edit, slapped on the data logging for an overlay because of course timing on the day is forbidden!

Quickest lap in the dry - 2: 34.8

Side by side comparison with last time out where my quickest was 2:50.02

Quickest lap in the wet - 2:45.08

No power changes, just suspension, setup and driver confidence knocked nearly 16s a lap off! On a cold damp day too so plenty more to come I think, especially with some semi slicks.

Mismash video of all the random last minute things I did before the track day last month. Mostly just cutting holes in the bumpers and sorting out some centre power/usb.

I've never had an issue running that level of camber or more on the road. What issue is it you are having?

After you mentioned it earlier I think it was my emergency camber adjustment before the trackday to stop the wheels hitting the arches.

Whenever I hit a pot hole it darts left significantly, turning hard right causes tyre squeal (but not left) and pulls left under braking. Maybe somethings come loose under there too...

Will try and get it in for proper camber/toe alignment if I'm gonna drive it more before engine swap.

As Adey said camber wont cause that issue, i used to run around -3deg on my old Kangoo. Get it set even both sides and get the toe adjusted as most likely out

Had a play with my resin 3d printer today, only used it for wargaming miniatures until now but tried this out.

Need to get the original badges off to see how they mount and print up a mount most likely but a fun experiment.

Sure feels strange driving around without a passenger seat, scrap man grabbed it before I could weigh it but assuming same as drivers, should be now down to 850-870kg based on previous weighbridge results.

Only got the spare wheel in there for the journey to get the half cage tomorrow. Then it's SORN time and engine swap me thinks.

Had a bit of a mad moment thinking about painting the interior fluro yellow...but as much as I love it I think it will be too much inside. Maybe just go matt black with fluro yellow cage/bar, and fluro yellow/black exterior for maximum eye attack!

Thanks to @3rsautos for helping fit the JP Cages half cage (ex TwingoGoGo) and the Wiechars rear strut bar, was a good (but a long deafening 100 mile each way ) day in the sun getting it all sorted out. Big improvement to handling at the rear was immediately noticable from the first roundabout on the way home.

Next video in the series is up, just a little review of the data logged from the track day

Next video is on brake duct setup, then the one after is the cage, then after that will be harness install 🙂. Pretty much ready to get the engine out and a few pieces left to put new (to me) one back in.

A few people had asked me about how I did my brake ducts and tubing, due to the quirks of the Twingo layout so heres the video on that.

Whilst I dont think it was that effective with my low HP requiring little braking, the standard brembo pads looked virtually new after a full track day anyway!

Borrowed this from a neighbour...guess I'd best get cracking soon..

He's got an engine stand too so will get the D4FT on that to sort out in shed more easily, whip out the D7F and then spend an indeterminite amount of time stressing before putting it all back together 😂

Last of the jobs to do pre-engine removal, picking up my new (to me, free!) alloys and getting some part worn Giti GTR2 semi slicks on them. Total cost to me £100 for all 4 wheels and tyres, facebook marketplace bargains.

Old 15" Clio Dynamiques with Toyo Proxes TR1's, will be kept for road driving or track wets.

New (to me) 15" Clio Campus wheels with the GTR2's on. Massively noticable difference on a short drive down the road, much much firmer sidewalls and grippy even in the damp greasy road conditions. Should be a blast on track.
