Hello From Glasgow

If you are going to rack up 10k miles a year and use it for the daily commute, why do you want low mileage?
As others have said you are better off spending a little less on a medium mileage car if you are going to throw that many miles at it.

Interested in your plans to improve an immaculate example.
If you are planning mods then low mileage again would seem to be a non requirement.
Save yourself some cash and buy a project if modding is the plan.

I struggled to use the Vee as a daily as it can be hugely impractical and difficult at times, many have and many do, but I can't see it as anything other than a couple of thousand miles a year (if I'm very lucky) summer weekend toy.

With regards cost, find the right one and pay what you can afford. These cars are few and far between.
If it's a low mileage mark1 then so be it - I paid top dollar for mine and got exactly what I wanted.

Welcome by the way.
:welcome:

Would I be making a huge mistake if I went down the MK1 route as per that link up above?

I personally wouldn't. It's a lot for a silver Ph1 imo, Ph2s are more like that price I'd say. You'd probably get my Ph2 Illiad on 31k for £15k - not that I'm selling but if I was it'd be about that price

15K minimum this time next year for a ph2 :approve:

Was thinking it must surely bump up by £2k a year, that's what my wife has been told ;)

Yeah that's 11-12 grand's worth (with the original rear lights ;))

Also still on the original exhaust which got pitted and rusty in about 6 months

Thanks for the reply and welcome Craig. I reasoned that buying a low mileage example - say 10-15k miles on the clock will allow me to get many years trouble-free motoring as opposed to buying with higher mileage and encountering problems three years and 60k miles down the line. Perhaps my reasoning is flawed, I don't know.

The Boxster wasn't hugely practical in all honesty so I can handle that side of things.

In terms of me improving the car - ;improving' is subjective I guess...personally, I'd like to look into seats, steering wheel, entertainment system etc. on the inside and suspension and brakes on the outside but I'm in dream land until the purchase is made. [smilie=thanks.gif]

Thing is 10-15k for a 10 -11 year old car might mean MORE problems if it hasn't been stored correctly, plus the costs of all the work to get it sorted if need be initially so it's driveable. Just my thought. Welcome aboard! Exciting times! [smilie=yay.gif]

^^^ This to be honest. The chances are a higher mileage car ahould have had more work carried out if it has been kept to a good standard. This will actually save you money if you compare to buying a lower mileage example which WILL have all of that to come. Based on the number of miles you intendondoing, dont waste your money on finding a low mileage car which you will inevitabley pay more for... And for what?

Each to their own pal but if i were in your shoes, and based on the experience of owning a V6, i would be looking for a car with circa 40k (give or take a few k miles) which is sensibly priced and has been maintained to a high standard.

The higher mileage ph1 vees dont seem to have had any problems (70k+). Engine life isnt an issue can easily do 200k. A big lazy lump of an engine. For you I think Nick's advice is right. Get a ph1 for 9k odd. Mod it to how you want and enjoy :) Or for 15k get a ph2 and do the same if its within your future budget. The only issues with vees has only ever been coils easily resolved. Otherwise follow service maintenance mileage or once a year and you should be fine.

Welcome Craig,

The phase ones at 14/15k are priced high for today's turbulent market, but condition seems to vary greatly on phase ones. Hard to say if they are over priced without a close look. IMO decent clean phase ones should sit currently around 9-13k, but a really nice one, especially ultra low mileage will always be worth more.

My advise is always go and see as many as you can first.

Best of luck with the hunt!

The mileage on the one on the link is attractive, the price is too much. Id be put off the car with the non genuine rear lights, missing wheel centre & cig lighter and stickers on the body. Id want to to be 100% OE with 7K on the clock to be over £10-12k so £15k is steep. As the guys here have said £15k would get a tidy ph2!

Good luck with the hunt though.

Ian

Hi Martin

Thats very strange... I clicked the link the link 1st time and it went to an Autotrader ad for a 7K miles silver ph1 for £14995, when I clicked again it went to an ebay ad for a silver ph1 with 29k miles for £14995 ... very strange indeed. The ebay car looks nicer but more miles. Either way both too much money.

Having said that if a ph1 with low miles is asking £15K whats my one owner BG ph2 with 8K miles on worth!!
