5 GT Turbo GTEEEE!!

Before getting the new clutch cable i decided to wiggle the old one a bit, and lube the hell out of it using tons of PTFE lube.
now it's actually pretty smooth, almost like a normal car!

Nice phase 1 grille.
Is that one from eBay, I think the seller was in Portugal?

yep.
he had three for sale, and they all sold pretty quickly, so i'm glad i noticed it in time.

the GT turbo badge was molded in, so i sanded it away and i am currently experimenting with making a GTE logo using red plasti dip.

it's a bit messy, but i can always peel it of and start over :D

i think i'll probably end up trying to find someone with a 3D printer and make proper badge though ;)

After a few hours of Dremeling and hammering, the new grille, headlamp and indicators are in place!

not the greatest photo, as it makes the grille look like a black hole, but i think it looks good!
all i need now, is to find someone who can attach the side decals without taking ALL my money :v

also for @Lewis
a photo of the alternator bracket!

i finally got the time to install the new front speakers this weekend: just in time to drive over the mountains to spend the summer holiday with my family.
6,5" perless sls in the doors

and some peerless 4" fullrange speakers in the vents.

i'm probably gonna try and improve the fit and finish of the dash-speakers eventually, but right now i just want a working stereo ;)
the speakers are driven by a pioneer GM-D8604 4-cannel amp hidden under the passanger seat.
the head unit is a lowly pioneer MVH-170UI feeding a Minidsp 2X4 digital crossover.
i just had time for a quick measurement and EQ session before setting off, so the crossover still needs some work, but i think its sounding pretty ok already.

i will probably try and fit the rear speakers (same as the front) in the coming weeks, but they require a bit more creative placement and cabinet constructions.

The ride from oslo to bergen was a treat!
nice weather and mostly empty mountain roads.

started over with the crossover setup today, and it sounds a lot better already!
how people managed back in the day without digital XO and measurement mic's is beyond me ;)

cabling underneath the seat will remain a mess until i'm done installing the rear speakers, for ease of access :)

Wow... I didn't realise such a thing was available to tune the sound of your ICE system now?? o_O

Things have certainly moved on a lot from the days of throwing a load of money at Alpine or Kenwood and hoping for the best... Come to think of it, it's nice to see the subject of ICE being discussed again. After the whole "Max Power" era it got a little bit stigmatised in the UK IMO and people moved onto more Trackdays & driving the cars, not just sitting in Maccie D's car-park listening to your Choons!

yeah, ICE has a pretty bad image over here as well, but i'm a "pretty hardcore" hifi DIY'er, so i just couldn't resist building something in the 5 :D
i already had the measurement equipment and spare minidsp laying around from earlier projects, so it would be a waste not to use them!
the 5 isn't exactly the easiest car to get good sound in, but i like the challenge :v

Love the Ronal Turbos, I bought a set double cheap a few years back in LeMans, Ford/Peugeot fitment, sold them for double when I got back :0). Would look great on a Dini.

I like a decent stereo in the house too, i'm a big fan of Mordaunt Short kit.
can't live without decent sound!
i'm a big fan of Quad when it comes to stuff i didn't build myself ;)
i have some ratty old ESL-63's stuffed away for future use, and power the tweeters of my current speakers with some quad II monoblocks i restored last year.

Holy sweet jesus mother of moses christ...

i suspected my old clutch cable was a bit ratty, but this new one!!
IT'S TOO GOOD...
MY BRAIN CANT HANDLE THE SMOOTHNESS!!!
MY FOOT IS ENCASED IN BUTTER!!!!!!
EVEN A NEWBORN BABY COULD OPERATE THIS CLUTCH SMOOTHLY!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!
