GAZ Gold Coilovers

A full syncro straight cut gearset would be good. With a lack of side load, it would prolong bearing life from the out set. It could even reduce case flexing. However, I wouldn't waste money, time and resources even looking at it. When the 'box went in my car it started with a 3rd gear syncro. Ended up fecking the diff and just about everything else in the space of a 100 miles.

What's needed is,

Ph1 flywheel and uprated clutch,
1 bellhousing adaptor
1 6 speed VAG gearbox
1 clutch pipe (renault union one end, VW the other)
1 pair of driveshafts
1 gearbox mount assembly.
1 modified VW selector arm set.

Job done....

Can't argue with that. Sounds like a relatively inexpensive route.

Brett you certainly sound like you know what you are talking about and in such detail.........not at all anal like wot some peeple is on here. ;)

So, back on track, nearly.
Contract I was working on, which was supposed to be secure, went tits up, so it got shelved for a while until I'd sorted out a new source of beer and car vouchers.

They're pretty much complete, though the measurements are rudimentary, as such there is a margin of error. Ideally, I'd like to measure some other struts, but that's not exactly an easy job.
GAZ advised that they use a 60mm dia strut body, from my measurements, it seems this is going to cause a clash on the upright bosses. I've got the original strut bodies coming out at 57mm dia. Could anyone give an idea as to the KW diameters?

If anyone has any standard dampers off the car I'd be very interested in comparing dimensions.... Let me know if you can help out on that one.

Here's the progress so far:

Still awaiting a response from GAZ. If this keeps on I'm going to be forced down the KW route. I really don't feel that individual bump / rebound adjustment is necessary for a road car, as a result you end up just paying for unneeded extras. But I may have no option. Grrrr

Limit reached and breached. I've ordered a set of KW Variant 3 Inox's

Shame as I had high hopes from GAZ. Seems they don't want business in these affluent climes.

If they do ever pull their finger out of their arse and someone wants to take over the baton, lemme know

That is a pity. Coilovers are my next upgrade so was looking forward to the outcome of this exercise.

Out of interest, what was the minimum order size to get these produced, or did you not get that far?

Second question: since independent bump & rebound adjustment wasn't a requirement did you not consider BC Coilovers, or did you not consider them due to a reason, such as build quality?

BC dampers do not fit the 255, I bought a set and had to send them back.

On the bright side I have KWs on order, which are known to fit properly so I now will check the CAD against the KWs and anyone is welcome to use the drawings to get a quote from GAZ.

I'll add a link to the CAD once I've checked and measured against the KWs feel free to use it.

Understand, and thanks for the clarification re BC's. It wasn't clear from their web site.

Thanks for sharing the CAD. Might explore options since I have a bit of time on my hands.....

What a shame. Looks like youve put a fair ammount of work in too. Anyone ever tried Avo? I have them on my mini and they are of a very good quality.

Would love to but my Renaudi is taking all my time up.

Has anyone got any genuine feed back about BC coilovers?
