5 GT Turbo Fuel pump relay can anybody help me with how to test this properly

Hey people I had to bypass the fuel pump electrical system as it was not working properly can anybody give me any guidance on how to test this really properly so I can check whether it's working or not properly

Has your aei got an earth? Asking as you’ve said your fuel pump relay doesn’t have an earth.
maybe disconnected a shared one

yes the aei is earthed to the chassis by that little tever wire the aei really wasn't clicking when I took a neutral from the battery to the relay it then clicked

that little tether wire is not its earth if you mean the tag that goes to a black plastic box thing?

can you check the wiring to the aei plugs as per the diagram posted in here? it shows you the + and -. the earth isnt through the relay if i remeber rightly and you just need to check the wire in the plug to the chassis.

Been waiting for the rain to stop just going to go run that test procedure now Bear with I'll see what comes back

Seem to have a neutral at the a I E I have a live but no neutral when I put live on the plug and neutral on the battery I get a reading

Okay guys so I've disconnected the negative terminal on that block and added one from the chassis and guess what it running just wanna say thank you to everybody for helping out I really appreciate everyone's help it's a bit of a nightmare when you're not a mechanic and having to self teach but I'm getting there slowly thanks to you lot

I had aLive at this plug but no neutral so I added one from the chassis and it started to work again

Great so its all working now? ill dig out a wiring diagram at some point and check where its meant to be earthed if you cant see it in the haines manuals, there's 2/3 versions but it sounds as if you are fighting 30 year old french electrics tbh. Would be good to go round and get everything up and running with some fresh wiring.

Yes definitely had lots of issues with electrics on this car is there anybody that makes these wiring harnesses ? or do you have to do it yourself from diagrams et cetera the biggest problem I've got is I've got lots of plugs that I don't know where they go and the guy that stripped the car for me I haven't seen for years

also I don't know if it's just by coincidence but when I added that neutral the fuel pump started to work again normally

theres a break somewhere in that wiring then. @Will D93 post above probably hit the nail on the head, might be a wiring loom shared earth not bolted down or something

The one I’ve just done is slightly different as the base car is a campus, but the earth for the aei in my case ran to where the neg. bat terminal bolts to chassis, or, opposite side of scuttle by the washer pump maybe.

also there is one again in my case behind the kick panel in passenger foot well. may well be one drivers side too.

the GTT’s differ from the campus but being that your pump relay and aei stopped working I would think an earth in the scuttle or passenger footwell by fuse box.

Thanks a lot for your advice everyone car is running now quick question I'm going to rewire all of the wiring looms does anybody know how you get the pins out of the connector blocks ?

The neutral for the AEi unit rely I traced it on the loom to the brake sensor on the passenger side it was just cut off with another neutral and taped up anybody have any ideas why this would've been done ?

The two black wires from the AEI relay are for the overboost sensor originally fitted on the short hoost hose. Usually the first thing to be disconnected on a tuned gtt to save ign cut when the boost is increased.
