Found a loose cable

Hi guys,

topped up the PAS-fluid today.
Steering was pretty noisy/whiny in the morning for the first 2-3km.
As soon as the car was warm the noise/whine was gone.
Topping up the PAS-fluid fixed it.
Anyway i found this:

Where does it belong? Looks like a ground cable to me.

hmmmm.....50 people watched this thread...
Regarding the wave of comments, this doesn't seem to be an important cable

I have no idea what that cable is for. The other 50 viewers obviously don't know either, but I posted to say so.

May I suggest you post up a pic showing much more of the engine bay? Compare it to other engine bay pics and see if any of them show that cable.

It looks home made.

It's Definately not for anything OEM on the engine. Was it for an AMP or speakers on rear bench perhaps?

Thats a good suggestion.
I scrolled through the "polish a turd" thread yesterday and didn't see this cable there...but the pictures showed a ripped bay without the engine in...so can't take this as a refernce i think...
Sadly i don't have any more pics at the moment...but the rest of the bay looks pretty normal...
Next time i put away all of the engine covers i will take some more pictures.

I don't think the previous owner putted an amp there!? How crazy is that?...haha you never know...
But if its homemade and not needed i just rip it out and thats it ;)

Is quite a quiet forum in comparison to others, so answers are sometimes slow to come by (but usually accurate!).

I'd wager that's an earth. Had an identical wire in mine before I ripped the sound system out. Turned out to be an earth for the under-seat sub a previous owner installed. If the sound system doesn't exist anymore then remove the wire, if you're not keen, then a bit of leccy tape or heat shrink and fold the wire back somewhere it can't be seen/flail about.

It's either the earth for the ejector seat or I don't have a clue....

Even if by some fluke the first guess was correct, I still don't have a clue.... :(

I also think it is an earth cable of some sort ...

Maybe for some big cibie spot lamps :race:

Wow, suddenly alot of respones in here [smilie=yay.gif]
I will just remove it.
The cable is pretty short (about 20cm) so i still don't think this originally was placed there for an amp...
We'll never know...but i reeeally want to know it ^^

Ill have a look tomorrow for you,

why has all the silver above that wire been painted black ??

It came from the factory like that.
I dont know the reason though...might be soundproofing.

Earth cable that goes to the filler cap surround area.

:approve:

So it's OEM?
I looked around and didn't find a reasonable place to put this cable?
Any pics?

EDIT:
Saw a couple of pics on cliov6passion of the pas-fluid area...
Seems like ph2's have a ground cable and ph1's not!

Found this picture on cliov6passion.

So where exactly does the ground cable go?

Well there is not much around there. Could it connect to the filler cap to prevent static discharges since its a metal part completely surrounded by isolating materials?
