Bit of an update........

Bernie is working his magic, he's replaced the shaft and turbine wheel, he doesn't think he can save the .49 rear, but to be fair, I think that may have been a limiting factor on the last set-up. I'm just waiting to see what options he has for me regarding that housing / a replacement of some description. If he can't throw anything good together there is always This turbine housing

I had a head with larger valves in it also which I thought might be scrap until speaking to Mr Ash Findler who pointed me in the direction of Chase Engineering that did a great job on repairing a head for him some time ago at the right £££. So I sent this off this morning in hope that they can sort it for me. Also got some none standard collets missing from the big valve head which I'm going to need to find. I think the valves are from A-Series heads, I'll see if chase can supply, if not I'll have to do a little digging.

Ive seen a .42ar rear on ebay that could possibly fit - bit small for decent hp ? .57 would definitely be a good compromise.

You could also go the wildcard - .72 rear with external wastegate takeoff. I wanted to try one but £££ and probably take the calendar year to spool on carb:D

Are you mad LOL - it probably wouldn't even spool, probably would just tickle the edge of the compressor map - toooooooo big my friend. I reckon with the .49 on the standard valves was pushed to the limit to get 224bhp @ 24 psi, Scoff was seeing so little return per psi that we knew we'd reached the limit. I would love to have a .49 on the back with the bigger valves, as I'm sure that the restriction was not the .49 but I don't think I'm going to get hold of one of those, so like you say a good comprimise.
 
I think you would be suprised on a decent efi engine setup as everybody seems to be seeing peak boost 4k with .64. If they were cheaper i would definitely have a blast :D
 
Cheers Dave / Jon - got word back from Bernies Blowers yesterday and the .49 is scrap which is a shame, but that's life right. I'm ordering the .57 to send to him and see how that performs. There are a few turbo's out there that don't require even that level of lag to get 230-250, so I'm going to the middle ground to see how that gets on. I was happy with the .49 / standard valved head, I'm hoping that the the larger valves coupled with the mild A/R upgrade will give me more power at a minimal cost to lag. That said, I'm not overly fussed about lag, but the .57 hasn't been overly used, so should be an interesting journey. If I'm still struggling, the .64 bolt on is an easy / cheap fix.
 
Got the head back from Chase Engine Svs.

For less than £150 for the repair delivered back - really couldn't complain.

Got me valve grinding stick and paste and will assemble over the week.

Now, This head has the inlets opened by about 10mm and the exhausts by about 5mm - time will tell to see what this will do

So here's my dilema. I've got the head back, my Turbo has been repaired and on its way, I've yet to rebuild the original engine. I've got the GT2860RS with a .57 back on it, it's efi and the head is only 72.5mm deck. I'm on efi, 285 cam, big valve head etc, this would constitute a high compression engine.

Any thoughts?

Whats the projected compression ratio? Without that you can't qualify it as high, low, middle or whatever?
Best get some perspex and a pipet then.
On a side note - just got my turbo back from Bernies Blowers - doesn't even look like my old turbo. In fact I'm not entirely convinced it is. Whatever it is it looks fappin awesome.
 
A slight compression increase over stock should not be an issue with efi. Infact probably work out better
Now that's what I like to hear, I believe Ashley or Ash on the FB side of things has proven higher compression on EFI a good direction to go in. I'll work out my CR and see how far out I am.
