5 GT Turbo Fluffy

OK - those following on FB will know the extent of the damage. For those who don't here's the prognosis.

FLUFFY IS FUCKED!!!

The exhaust valve head has snapped off and gone walk about destroying the head, piston, liner and turbo. I have a spare engine which I'm going to put back in with my old T25 (did 200 ponies with that) on standard cam and probably limiting to 16psi to get me going again. With the old engine out, I'll strip it down and have a good look about for possible porblems and set about repairing what needs to be repaired. First thing first I'll get the Turbo off to CR Turbo's for a quote on work needed doing.

Anyway here's the gallery

Valve head snapped off and hey presto - fooked everything. The collet is still nicely holding onto the rest of the valve above LOL. I will never surrender.

On the plus side, this gives you an idea of the thickness of the piston top.

On 1st inspection, I thought I had got away with destroying the turbo.

However...........................

Not so much. Sorry about the crappy photo.

So there we are, more work to do, I have a spare head which needs a skim and is currently @ 72.75mm which I might be able to use, I'll have to see what the advice is on that, the turbo is in the hands of CR and the engine will have to wait for me to get around to stripping down.

C1j all the way for me Matt - it's what the 5 is all about. "1.4? - no fucking way" yes fucking way!

And to be fair, 10 years and this is only the 2nd failure, and it's epic I agree. But I guess the valve had done over 130,000 miles and decided enough was enough. Most of my milage was very hard LOL. So sad yes, but Fluff' is my hobby and this is what we all do to a degree. Steve is an inspiration, after he found the reason his cup car was fubarred, he just got on with it, I'm doing just that. Gutted, a little and the main reason is that it's bad timing. we have got a rough 12 months ahead financially with Ang (My other half) going on Maternity leave in March, and this happening, I would be a little less cautious and get throwing money at it, but I'm going steady steady this time around. But like I've said earlier in the posts, I have a spare engine which will be going in, a great blower to go on and then Fluff is still out there and I can do the other stuff when we have the £££.

Hopefully I'll have the other lump in within a few weeks, although Xmas tends to eat up social time. Watch this space.

Saw this on fb bud, not good :negative.gif:

I know I've not been active in the club/ecm lately but you know why, we've just done it the other way! If you need anything off blue you're more than welcome, I've got a spare block striped down, maybe a couple of heads just ask if they'll come in handy rebuilding fluffys heart. As for baby, liz isn't going to be working out of your children's centre anymore but said she's happy to come speak to you and ang about help, advice and support. :friends.gif:

Mint.

Thanks for the offer on the head, I might just need to call that one in, I'm so glad I didn't sell you that T25 right now LOL.

yOU DON'T HAPPEN TO KNOW WHO HAS MY ENGINE STAND DO YOU?

Hope you manage to get one or even better yours turns up. I remember something about someone rebuilding a diesel engine, does that ring any bells?
Yes I've got back to him, as a few people have said the same thing, I've asked him to have a proper look as he responded without looking. I know how this goes, and I also know that not one of my car buddies would deliberately borrow and keep any tools of mine, it's just an oversight.

Anyway, Ross came over last night and we made a start

If you're struggling for time and space, need to lift an engine and got a crazy midget for a mate, don't bother asking him for help, he just turns up and insists that you get the fucking engine out. Of course there needs to be a healthy supply of tea, poor form from me, he had to complain about a dry throat on one occasion.

so much fun with this fella around, you forget any problems you may have.

Thanks again Rosso. @TNTRoss
