5 GT Turbo F4Rt - hopefully the correct decision

yup, that's how i do them if the engine is in the car.

In your opinion @bloke is it likely to be the main cap not sealed correctly given I’m pretty confident that the rear main seal was fitted correctly ?

Is there anywhere else in that region that you would suggest checking ?

As long as the main seal is in straight then nothing else for it to be. Seen plenty of people fit them and not seal properly and end up leaking in no time.

am building another engine in the morning, will try and get you a pic of the cap with sealant in it.

Thanks mate, any advice on where and how to seal will be very helpful. Even better with a pic or two.

You reckon I should leave it over night too ?

that's built up now but wont have oil in it for about a week or so. the top was neatened up a bit by the way.

if you can leave it for as long as possible before you put oil in that helps.

where are you?

I’m in Cheltenham, a good 3hrs away.

Do you just use sealant down the channels and the sides?

yeah, just pump it in until it gets messy!!!!

@bloke - can I just get an idiots guide to doing the cap please ?

Do I literally undo, pull cap off, clean up, use sealant, put cap back on torqued up, clean off excess and leave to dry ? Anything else to consider ? Is brake cleaner safe to use to clean up ?

Thanks mate

Also is there any reason I cannot use a bit of sealant on the inner and outer of the rear main seal ?

cap off, clean it, back on without any sealant on.
torque it up and then pump sealant down the sides of the cap until it squishes out of the front and back of it.
you would logically think you put sealant in the groove and then fit the cap but they don't seal that way.

if that doesn't make sense i'm doing another next week and can make a video for you.
