Clio F4RT Bottom End Failure

I think the heading is right, basically the Meg 225 engine. What's the least that would need to be done on bottom end failure? It mentions bottom end shells (bearings) to be replaced, I know it's a tad vague but this is all that's mentioned, no reason to why it's happened either. Just thinking across the board any engine that has this failure would require similar action.
Bearings
Crank regrinding?
Crank rebalanced?

Just thought I'd ask

If i'm dealing with run bearings mate I break the whole lump down and wash through every oil gallery to make sure no swarf persists. Reground crank, oversize bearings (big ends i assume), check the mains for damage/wear. Check every contact surface for damage or scoring- crank, cam, oil pump etc.

Then you have the full gasket sets and belts and fluids to rebuild. If engine bearings have run it means anywhere oil goes, swarf can (and probably will) go as it's post-filter.

Also you do need to figure out the cause of failure....oil pump, revs, damage? Sometimes when a valve drops it flat-spots the crank and runs the bearing in a few hundred miles after the head rebuild for example.

Definitely steer clear of it Ricky. after new engine belts etc you will be up to the cost of a runner easily, probably turn into a money pit. I got offered a 225 for £700 recently that needed an engine, not worth repairing at the current prices.

Feck, seven hundred? Glad that wasn't me, I don't think I could have said no to that lol

It was a facelift too 06 reg in black with the cup alloys on - Tidy too. I have an engine in stock too just couldnt be bothered. Seen loads of 225s around the 1500-2k mark in decent nick/running ok though, usually loads on gumtree.

I forget about looking on Gumtree, like I say I think it's gonna be easier to buy a manky but running 225 so I have absolutely everything there to use. It will save time and hassle sifting through classifieds for weeks sourcing ancillaries to bolt to a bare engine bought from Ebay or elsewhere.
