Exhaust

With longer duration and higher lift cams, you will noitice a big difference with better manifolds. Personaly, if I were you, I'd get a good pair equal length ones to really make the most of a spruced up engine.

I have fitted mk1 janspeed manifolds to spikes new rear box setup been on for about 2months what a pain in the arse to change with engine in and was disappointed with power gains and the change in sound

I'm hopeful someone will buy the Orbisound Race Backbox to see what that sounds like.............can't see it on YouTube at the moment ?

we still make our replacement silencer for the V6, its not stupidly priced either unlike the quicksilver etc! Sounds good too ;)

why disappointed with power gains and sound ?

All the effort and time involved in taken them off fabricating parts to make ph1 manifolds fit spikes ph2back box not a massive differance in performance when fitted I wouldn't do it again

1200 euros delivered for the race system.

Nice as they are, you need to be nutts to spend 1200 quid on a silencer. Especially given the fact that it seems people are spending even more money on deleting or modifying the collector to make it sound as they want.

Hi Brett,

I'll buy if it's the right sound, gain, look, weight for me.............if not I'll just have to buy something else.

It just seems to be a very well make piece and I don't mind paying if it fits my requirements.

Like I've said before I'm very new to the V6 Clio and if I don't throw my questions out there I'll be none the wiser.

Any ideas, thoughts...........abuse :) is gratefully accepted :approve:

Cheers,
Hoogi

My thoughts would be: dont spend €1200 on a silencer!! With a silencer all you're buying is sound. Spend less on a full system. Sound and flow.

Silencers alone never create as a good a sound as collector delete or full decat systems. My OMG was the loudest silencer you could buy, but it's nothing compared to a full decat system; decibels are roughly the same, but the quality of the sound (which most people don't think about) is in a different league.

Your money/choice though of course.

I'd beg to differ that my full Janspeed is anything like as loud as an OMG QS. The OMG booms and is touching on the 'un-bearable' from within the car. A hideous noise and silencer in my humble opinion..

On a slightly seperate 'note' ;) I've noticed how much complete Janspeed systems seem to vary in tone. Strange, possibly.. but the only thing that seems to differ, certainly on mine to others, is the tips I had Janspeed put on the back box for me. Just thought I'd share that observation :salut:

I had the orbisound briefly on my car , fantastic sound and build quality, BUT they are a bit louder inside the car compared to standard, not boomy or annoying , but at 30mph (town driving) a bit louder,

Shaun / Mick,

Thanks for your input............very much appreciated.

At the moment it sounds like the "standard" Orbisound might be the one for me...........I'd go for the Race version, but a little worried the extra noise would do my nut in :s

Remember not to confuse decibels with resonance Shaun. Resonance is what causes the horrible boominess. Simply being loud doesn't mean its bad - or good for that matter - which was what I was referring to before with the 'quantity vs quality' point.

Yeah.. thats cool Jon, I understand the difference.. As you mentioned, you felt the decibels where comparable. But that doesnt detract from the OMG nigh on making ones ears bleed with the racket they make. lol... So, in layman's terms they appear to be noticeably, by a long way, louder than a complete Janspeed system. My current set up is even 'quieter' than the QS 'Sports' silencer that I had on my Black Gold v6 in normal use, but when one presses the bark peddle, it sounds glorious..! Best of both worlds IMO :approve: No offence to all those that have the OMG... its just not my bag.. a bit like colours... ;)

That's the resonance though Shaun. You ever heard some really low bass? The kind that ends up making your ears tickle? That's resonance. Nothing to do with decibels. For instance the resonance caused by the OMG is only preset between 2000-3000rpm ie as the sound gets louder it disappears.

Having heard you doing a WOT drive by and having listened to my OMG doing the same I really can't say there's much difference in decibel level to the naked ear. Resonance though, yes, completely different; yours (I imagine) little to none, OMG; lots! (in the right rev range).

Isnt that pretty much what I said..?

I understand the difference between decibels and resonance :approve: Not to mention I've had many a conversation with Duncan about such matters ;) It still give an 'effect' to many as being 'louder' purely because of how it resonates.
