Exhaust Compatibility

I believe i have asked this before and been answered i still have a few issues with it though...
I wanted to use the exhaust backbox from a 1994 Azur on a 1994 16V 3 dr hatch, i believed they were compatible just bolt off at the cat and switch but when i was hanging out underneath the cars today they looked quite different, was i mistaken in thinking they were compatible or do they match up regardless of visual differences...?

On an unrelated topic, the oil gauge on my 16V hatch seems to be hanging out at the bottom, it had usually been steady 3/4 way up but today it just didnt seem to move from the bottom at all? any way i can research what would be causing this?

One more thing, front shocks & springs from 1994 Azur cabby will bolt straight onto 1994 16v hatch, would i be correct? also the bolts on the bottom of the shocks are 3/4 are they?

As ever many thanks for all the help

Exhaust, not sure, i personally thought they were identical.

Oil gauge the sender on the back of the block is buggered, very common.

8V front struts are completely different to 16V ones but will fit as complete units.

Bolts - 3/4 what? they are 18mm heads

thanks neal, your a gent, is the sender an easy fix (cheap and accessible)...

yeah my plan was to just take the shocks/mounts and springs over to the 16v as one of my shocks on the hatch fractured, sorry yeah the 1/4 was inacurate, 18 is spot on...

the exhausts may be the same but judging by the hatch the current exhaust on it is probably some sort of hybrid gimmick, everything else on this one seems to be

If you can find a working one it will probably be relatively cheap. Accessible... well its not the hardest thing to get to, not exactly the easiest either.

cool, i shall attempt that after i handle the other bunch of things i half started and never finished today, any tech articles relating to the sender here do you know, had a look and couldnt spy one

One more thing, this should be the last of my enquiries on this matter, is the cat on the azur the same as the 16v?

thanks neal...
after attempting both exhaust and front shock switch over today neither were compatible with the 16v, im not sure as to why this was but I imagine it's down to the car and not general incompatibility between models

the old ones came off not a problem, measured them alongside the new ones asides being different lengthwise they were identical, bolt holes matched up etc. When i went to put the new ones on though the just wouldnt fit, i struggled with the bottom two bolt holls, was able to get the very bottom one on but when it came to the one above that it was at too much of an angle outward and i couldnt push it in at all, i gave up and went to put the old one back on and it popped on no problem at all. I didnt clamp the springs of the new ones or anything, would this have made a difference?

well you need to twist the driveshaft to make sure the inner tripod is seated in the diff otherwise it will be too long and you'll never be able to bolt the hub up to the strut.

i gave it a twistaroo and still no joy there, i went to put the old one back on and it went on no bothers, im guessing i did something wrong along the way though, i think chet may be dropping by over the weekend so i might ask him to throw his eye over it

ah no i wont expect more, just really to be pointed in the right direction is all i need, more of a conformation that i was wrong and the shock wasnt, may sort something though cos both the shock mounts are ruined

you have the 8 valves strut top 180 degrees outore than the 16v

the exhaust will bolt up to the back cat flange but its a smaller bore
