5 GT Turbo EFI - GT Turbo

Gear linkage for shifter is sorted after a bit of fiddling to try and get reverse working properly but all done so ready for some miles this weekend.

The dash is fully functioning apart from configuring the fuel level sender and fitting a bracket for the wheel speed sensor.

Scoff kindly sent me a new plug pin and correctly colour coded wire for MVSS to enable boost by gear.

Ready to rock, let’s see how long this iteration lasts.

First road test this afternoon and although at first the bonnet exit sound is a little jarring, when actually driving you get used to it quickly. I don’t hate it as much as I thought I would.

All seems well with new bottom end, oil pressure, oil temp and water temp all hold firm as you’d expect.

Dash is working fine, still need to sort wheel speed sensor and fuel level sensor but not hugely important for mapping.

Clutch feels nicer, still a nice solid bite but not quite as severe as the last one. May get harsher as it’s worn in though.

The most telling for me though is running this larger .86 housing it doesn’t seem to have changed spool too much at all. Not really moving passed 3k revs for the first few miles but already out of vacuum and seeing 1-2 psi at 3k which is promising.

Hopefully the rain stays away and can put some proper miles on tomorrow.

Spool sounds mega too with bonnet exit and I’ve already seen some meaty 1 foot flames engine breaking at 3k. Good times ahead 😂

A few short clips of running in, no more than

Interestingly using the Turbo Renault # doesn’t seem to work for me. Been wasting all those precious clicks adding it to my Insta posts for no reason 😂

It will be doing mate - StavTech did the last one ( a video ) of your car. I am working on a problem to auto grab all #turboRenault tags and then re push them as our own. Taking a bit of time as Insta keep on changing their APIs and are funny about re intsa pushing content that strictly speaking doesnt belong to you, just via the tag.

Yeah it’s no biggie mate, was just looking through the TR insta posts at other members cars and noticed the last year or so of mine hasn’t shown for some reason, probably user error 🤣

Ill take a look into it - see if there are any anomalies. Please , please keep tagging!

Went to get car mapped today, massive air leak from injector ports, number 3 in particular as when smoke and air tested it pisses out everywhere. We changed all O-rings on injectors to make sure it wasn’t those causing the leaks and it wasn’t.

The cause is inlet design, the injector ports are on the piss and not sealing.

£150 down today for no reward.

Back to the drawing board but in the meantime it can stay in garage whilst I decide what to do.

Gutted for you Mark, But stay strong, you're almost there, and with epic conversions like yours, the last bit is were you're most likely to get frustrated etc as you're soooooooo nearly there. I understand why you would want to get the manifold sorted locally, but I'm with a few of the others here, chat to the original designer / builder and ask for him to sort it and £150 back. Ultimately, it was his work that let you down, he charges top dollar, you should get top service.

Watching with interest.
