5 GT Turbo EFI - GT Turbo

I know chaps, I just need to think on it for a few days. My point is that I can’t risk it being made wrong again and as far as I can tell he can’t test it either.

Is this the first one he’s made?

Big thing a while back on FB about inlets...... real science to get it right !!!
So would need lots of testing.

I’m not sure how many Clarkey. As far as I can tell without having the inlet off the injector ports need making a bit smaller and possibly the rail a bit smaller too to make the injector removal/fitting easier (this was why the injector rings were shot as catching on install but we changed them all)

As soon as the tuner pressure tested you could hear it pissing out, explains the funky idle I was getting too, I just assumed that was due to new engine etc etc.

Spent two hours there trying to resolve it to no avail.

I’ll get there eventually, I’m going to buy a smoke tester too so I can do all these checks before I get to the mapper.

What has the guy said who made it ?
You spent a few quid there, so would think he would want to sort it out for you.

Not spoken to him yet, taking it to another chap to sort. My current feeling is if it can’t be done right the first time then second time round is unlikely too, maybe I’m being unfair with that thought process but at least with the local chap he’s made inlets proven at over 500hp on high end cars that are still performing years and years on. Plus he’s a friend of a friend who rates him highly.

If I look back to the CTM fiasco, i did the exact same thing as they were apparently good at what they do but in reality they fucked up twice which resulting in me paying over £2k in head work, I am not making that same mistake again. I am going to the true pros this time, people who work on competition cars where failure is not an option.

I’ll end up paying a bit more cash but I think the current one can be amended easy enough with correct size ports and slightly differently mounted/thinner fuel rail.

What I need now is the ability to check leaks myself so will buy a smoke leak tester too. Hopefully I can then do my own in depth checks before booking another session on rollers.

Yesterday cost me a days holiday, £50 in fuel, 2 hrs driving, 4 hours trying to fix an issue not caused by me, cost the mapper £500 in fees, cost a mate a days work as he came with me. Plus I paid the mapper £100 for his time and facilities.

That suck's, If i was the guy who made it i would be offering to fix it or be offering some compensation or even both depending how much much you value your reputation, mistakes do happen and i do believe people should have the chance to rectify them but i also understand why you would want to go else were based on past experiences too, In that case if it were me i would be offering some compensation and stepping my inlet making game up and investing in the ability to test them before they are sold in the future.

I’ll get there mate, learning lots myself. Just bought my own smoke machine/leak tester.

Pretty confident that I can sort this with a bit of patience. Hopefully mapped May/June.

Gutted to hear this Mark - My advise (choose to ignore if you like) is stick all the C1j stuff in a corner for a much later day. The little un (s) is / are the the most important thing for now, but I can see the draw for the F4rt route. I'm going to re-build my old C1j to about the 200 - 230 bhp spec (new spec, including high compression and GT2856 with .56 rear) once that's done and I'm bored, a F4rt (low boost) is my next challenge.

If you need the money - then that's an entirely different story - good luck with everything in front of you.

This, with a bill for the wasted mapping session too.

Gutted for you mate, it just wont let you catch a break will it.

I just can’t justify time sorting it again plus mapping costs and as July approaches it will just be impossible to find the time.

I’m going to go balls deep in F4R bits, think I’ve found an engine already.

I know, I know I've come so far etc etc. I just can't face fucking about with it anymore, my back is in bits, got a whole house to do up. Mapper is another 6 weeks wait, need to find solution to inlet leaking. At least another £600 for mapping etc with my first child due in a few months, (fuck knows that that's going to be like) ;-)

Selling what I have and getting a nice separate pot together seems a good plan. Already raised £470 from my Gordini stuff, if I can get another £2k together from my existing bits then that gets me a long way into a decent F4R build. Use ECU, adapt loom, use box and shafts and hey presto 400+ hp. I am sure some challenges along the way but hey.

Hard decission to make and 1 child is fine amd was able to still get the balance right between family, work and cars......3 on the other hand lol

I am not even at the stage of worrying about giving the c1j a check over, clean up get working and seriously though vag 1.8 20v turbo in on 5 speed box as even my old one still going strong :( should never have sold but sticking with c1j :);)

Gutted for you with the issues faced and always hard when doing something new and getting done over on some bits :(
